File Menu ═══ This menu enables you to open a file, or exit yafvii. There is no separate close file, who wants to look at a blank screen anyway? See Also:- Opening a File Close and Exit ═══ 4.1. Opening a File ═══ Use the standard file dialog provided. If you have a file already opened, you are prompted with this file. If you do not know how to use a standard file dialog, feel free to experiment. Because this is only a file viewer, you cannot do any damage. Hint. Double click on a text item in a listbox to select a file, change directory, change drive. ═══ 4.2. Close and Exit ═══ Select this menuitem to exit yafvii. Any colour or font selections you have made will be saved for next time. ═══ 5. Search Dialog ═══ First select the search mode you require. The search will be performed in the mode selected, regardless of the actual display mode. Enter the text or hex string you require. In the case of a hex string you must specify a fixed number of bytes. eg 'a' must be typed as '0a'. The following are equivalent. 10 20 ab cd ff 03 or 1020abcdff03 Select find. If you wish to start a search from the start of the file, select home first. Select done when you have finished searching. ═══ 6. Warning Small or inappropriate fonts can cause severe headaches and/or eyestrain! ═══ 6.3. Statistics ═══ The statistics menu displays the current memory usage of yafvii. It also shows your customer registration number if you are registered. Registered users can expect to use this number to obtain technical support. ═══ 6.4. Registration ═══ Please see the supplied read.me file on information on how to register. YAFVII is dedicated to all struggling computer users everywhere, Share and Enjoy! You may find yafvii cheaper to register than you realised. It is imperative that we all support the shareware concept. If you do not have a read.me file, please take the time to write to me at the address shown in Product Information, telling me where you obtained this copy of yafvii. Hint. Registering does not go unrewarded!! ═══ 7. ASCII Mode ═══ In ASCII mode, plain text is shown in readable form on the screen. Note that word processor files are not often in ASCII, as they usually also contain such things as formatting and hilighting information. Yafvii will automatically pick ASCII mode depending whether the file can reasonably be expected to be read. Any fonts you select will only work in ASCII mode. If you disagree with the display mode, select either HEX or ASCII to change it. ═══ 8. HEX Mode ═══ Any file considered unreadable by yafvii will be displayed in HEX. This is a hexadecimal, (numerical) display of the values found in the file. To make things easier, the ASCII equivalent is also shown where possible. Any fonts you select will only work in ASCII mode. If you disagree with the display mode, select either HEX or ASCII to change it. ═══ 9. Help Menu ═══ To make yafvii quick at starting, Help is not automatically enabled. On a slow PC this makes yafvii much faster, and on a fast PC, it's only slightly more difficult to get help. Many users may not even notice the difference. Having made it to here, help is now Enabled. To enable help select Help from the menubar or press the F1 key. Help will also automatically be enabled when selecting a Help button in a dialog. Until help is enabled pressing F1 during a menu selection will have no effect. If help is enabled select Help.. and then the topic of interest. If no specific help is available, the About page is displayed. See Using Help for a more detailed description of the help system. The About page is also found in Help.. General Help.. on the menubar. ═══ 9.1. Keys Help ═══ The following keys are available. Page Up Page Down To go up or down a page Up Down To go up or down a line Left Right To scroll left or right. This has a slightly different meaning in HEX mode. Any other keys are noted alongside the menuitems they represent.
