ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2. Editing Profile Records ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This section describes the steps necessary to edit the profile container record
Application, Key, Data and Data Type fields.
Container field editing is invoked by one of two methods.
1) Hold down the ALT key, position the mouse pointer over the desired field,
then press mouse button one. This action starts the multi-line editor on the
field under the mouse pointer.
2) Scroll to the container object and press the F2 key. This action starts the
multi-line editor on the application field of the selected object.
In the edit mode
To edit the field to the right, press the F4 key.
To edit the field to the left, press the F3 key.
To end the edit operation press the F5 key.
To discard the change, press the ESC key.
Note: The data type field 'ascii' or 'binary' (without the quotes) is a
required field entry that is used to control the manner in which the data is
written to the profile file. The write command will not continue if the data
in this field is blank or contains a string other than ascii or binary.
Binary data is stored as an unsigned long (32-bit) integer in the profile. The
default representation for binary data is HEX format. Binary data can be
represented by using the following syntax:

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.3. OS2 System Profile ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This section describes the OS/2 System Profile.
The OS/2 System Profile is used by the OS/2 operating system to control system
operations such as spooler initialization for printer drivers, desktop and
system folder attribute initialization, workplace shell initialization,
communication driver and network initialization.
The OS/2 System Profile can be loaded by pressing OS2SYS.INI button.
Warning: Additions and modifications to this profile should be left to the
operation system and it's support programs. Additions or modifications to this
profile using this application could disable the OS/2 operating system, damage
or alter the workplace shell, or disable critical system operations.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.4. OS2 User Profile ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This section describes the OS/2 User Profile.
The OS/2 User Profile is shared between the OS/2 Operating System and external
applications. Applications using this profile should keep the number of OS/2
User Profile record entries to a minimum. e.g. an application could have a one
record entry in the OS/2 User Profile describing a path to a custom profile
associated with that application. This would reduce the load time not only for
the operating system but for other applications using the OS/2 User Profile.
The OS/2 User Profile can be loaded by pressing the OS2.INI button.
Warning: Caution should be excersized when adding or modifying records in the
OS/2 User Profile. Erroneous alterations could disable the OS/2 operating
system or alter the behavior applications that are dependent on the OS/2 User
Profile.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.5. Custom Profiles ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This section describes custom profiles.
Custom profiles can be created and maintained by selecting the Custom Profile
button. Selecting the Custom Profile button invokes the standard file dialog
box that enables the selection of an existing custom profile or the entry of a
new custom profile. Custom profiles can have any name as long the name of the
profile follows the standard OS/2 file naming convention. However, it is
customary to use the file extension .INI which allows the file to appear as a
profile or application initialization file.
Custom profiles can be loaded by pressing the File button.
After the profile has been selected or entered, press the OK button. If the
profile existed (was selected from the list) the profile editor will load it.
If the profile was entered in the Open Filename: field and does not exist, a
new profile will be created and the profile container will appear empty. To
enter profile records, select the New button.
