CHAPTER 3. CUSTOMIZING CLEARLOOK
SETUP WINDOW setup window customizing Clearlook
The Setup object in the Clearlook Status Window is used to customize the word processor. These items can be customized:
Screen display colors
Keyboard key combinations
Data Markings definitions, used in transforms for mail-merge, table of contents, index, etc.
Preference interface settings
Default display settings by document type
The setup is saved in the configuration file named CL.CFG, unless Clearlook was invoked with a parameter to indicate differently. To use a different configuration file, copy the CL.CFG file and invoke Clearlook from a OS/2 command line, specifying the new configuration file as a parameter:
[C:\CL\BIN]CL MY.CFG
Now, the setup configuration in the file MY.CFG is used.;
Setup Window setup window
Figure 3-1 Clearlook Setup Window
The Setup window appears when double-clicking the Setup object in the status window. The contents of Settings are stored in the OS2.INI file, the other objects are stored in the Clearlook configuration loaded at start-up. Changes in Settings take effect immediately. Changes in any of the other objects take effect when returning to this window.
Settings Notebook settings notebook
Figure 3-2 Settings Notebook
The settings are organized in a standard notebook with tabs on the right for direct access to any page. They include the license information, interface preferences, date and time formats, and tab-stop creation defaults. The first page of the notebook displays the name and license number entered. The access code is never displayed. It is represented by a string of asterisks.
Preference Settings preference settings
Figure 3-3 Preference Settings
The Preference section of the Settings Notebook provides options to configure the Clearlook Edit window and the operation of certain functions:
Show Speedbar Displays the row of buttons for quick access to common functions.
Show Infobar Displays the informative bar at the bottom of the screen below the document.
Infobar Help Information Describes buttons and various pointer shapes as the pointer passes over the document. When traversing the pull-down menus, a short description is displayed in the Infobar for the active menu item. The description consists of the hotkey default or user-defined.
Single click Pop-up menus Execute pop-up menu operations with a single press, hold, and release of button 2. When this option is not checked, a single click and hold of button 2 allows you to move text objects, otherwise moving is available only with button 1.
Solid Cursor Displays a solid cursor in the document edit window.
Escape closes edit window If unchecked, File | Close is required.
Print in thread This is for specific cases only. By default, Clearlook prints a document in a separate thread. This setting disables that performance feature and is used only if a document prints incorrectly. If the printed results are different with this setting on or off, pass this information to Clearlook Technical Support.&
Tabstop Defaults tabstop defaults
Figure 3-4 Tab-Stop Settings
When creating a new document, default tab-stops are created at intervals defined in Distance. The above example creates a tab-stop every one inch on the horizontal ruler. If no tab-stops are desired, enter a value of zero. Existing documents are not affected when altering this setting.
The units of measurement may be changed here or in any dialog using measurements.
Date and Time Defaults date default time default
Figure 3-5 Default Date and Time Format
The Date + Time page sets the default date format and default time separator. This is used to enter a date or time in entry fields in Clearlook. It is also used in the default format for new date and time fill-ins variables. At the time of the fill-in, the actual date or time format may be specified differently.
Text Colors text colors
Figure 3-6 Colors Dialog
The Colors object adjusts and creates colors for text. Colors may be added, changed or deleted from this list. The New function inserts a new entry after the selected entry. The Delete function deletes the current entry, the Edit function edits the current entry in the Dialog shown in Figure 3-7. Color is altered by adjusting the RGB (Red Green Blue) color values. Colors defined here appear in the Edit | Colors menu function. Setting text to a color stores the color value in the document. Subsequent changes to these definitions do not affect existing documents.

Markings markings, defining
Figure 3-8 Set Markings
The Markings object creates and changes data markings. Apply markings to your document like any other text attribute and use them in conjunction with Transforms to create tables-of-content, indices, mail-merge and the like.
A Marking may be added, changed or deleted from this list. Use the New function to create new entries. The Delete function deletes the current entry, the Edit function edits the current entry as shown in Figure 3-9.
Figure 3-9 Data Marking Setup
The functional element of a marking is the Marking ID, also called Marking Value. When applying a marking, the marked text is associated with the Marking Value. This allows a transform process to use the marked text as input data. The Name and Color settings are for the user's convenience only.
The Marking ID is stored in the document. Subsequent changes to the marking definitions do not affect the functional side of the marking. Changes to names and color do affect existing documents.
Screen Colors screen colors, setup
Figure 3-10 Screen Colors
Use the Screen object to define the colors of the screen display. This list contains different screen components and the current color.
Double-click on any entry to display the Screen Color setup dialog as shown in Figure 3-11. For entries in the list up to Enclosures Outline, the Screen Color is set by adjusting the RGB (Red Green Blue) color values. For the remaining entries, one of 16 standard colors may be selected.
The Keyboard object defines the hotkey assignments. Many editing functions are invoked with menu functions or speedbar buttons. Clearlook is designed for complete manipulation through the keyboard as well as the pointing device. Most hotkeys can be set to your preferred key combination. Press Enter or double-click an entry to change it. When the dialog shown in Figure 3-13 appears, any key or key combinations pressed are recorded for the specified function. The name of the key(s) pressed appears, if they can be used. To disable a function, select the Delete menu function.
Note: Clearlook does not check for duplicate hotkey assignments.

Document Defaults documents, default settings
Figure 3-14 Document Defaults
The Defaults object defines the attributes for new documents. The dialog shown in Figure 3-14 lists the document types for which default settings are already defined.
The values in .CTX are used when creating a new document with the status window's Text | New function or the edit window's File | New function. The values in the entry marked with a dot only are used to open documents with extensions not defined in this list.
The current entry is edited in the dialog as shown in Figure 3-15.
Figure 3-15 New Document Defaults
These settings become the default for any new document with the filename extension as set in Extension.
