  4.       Sound Galaxy (Oriole) Device Driver Installation Version 1.00
  5.                             For OS/2 Warp 3.0
  6.  
  7. Installation Method
  8. *******************
  9. All the instructions below are intended for a system which is configured
  10. for booting OS/2 from the C: partition. If your boot driver is other than
  11. C:, please substitute your boot drive letter for C:. Please take a moment
  12. to decide which of the following method will suit your situation:
  13.  
  14. *** NOTE: Please note that these installation instructions only apply to
  15.     the following products. If your sound card is not on the list, please
  16.     contact your computer manufacturer for futher instruction. - Waverider
  17.     32 plus - Sound 16A - Washington & Oriole family - Sound144AM/AMSP
  18.  
  19.     
  20. I.   If you already have OS/2 Warp installed with the embedded "Sound
  21.      Blaster ..." driver on your system, please begin the installation on
  22.      section A to uninstall "Sound Blaster ..." driver.
  23.  
  24. II.  If you are installing OS/2 Warp for the FIRST time, please skip
  25.      section A and begin the installation on section B.
  26.  
  27. III. If you are installing Sound Galaxy WIN-OS/2 driver, please begin the
  28.      installation on section C.
  29.  
  30. IV.  If both methods I & II don't apply to your situation, please proceed
  31.      to the troubleshooting section at the end of this document.
  32.  
  33.  
  34. A.   Begin with this section ONLY if you already have OS/2 Warp installed
  35.      with any embedded audio driver such as Sound Blaster Pro (MCV or OPL3)
  36.      driver. In order to install Sound Galaxy Oriole OS/2 Warp driver,
  37.      you have to UNINSTALL the Multimedia Software Support under OS/2, and
  38.      then reinstall the Multimedia Software Support
  39.  
  40.      1. Open the System Setup folder
  41.  
  42.      2. Open the Selective Uninstall program
  43.  
  44.      3. Check the box next to the Multimedia Software Support (5.7MB),
  45.         and then select "Uninstall" button.
  46.  
  47.      4. Select OK to confirm on delete, and then select Yes again.
  48.  
  49.      5. Select OK when it is done, and then select "Cancel" to exit the
  50.         Selective Uninstall program.
  51.  
  52.      6. Shut down the system and restart the computer. Note: If you get an
  53.         error message when you restart your system, please refer to
  54.         troubleshooting section at the end of this document. If not, please
  55.         proceed with the following procedures:
  56.  
  57.      7. Open the Selective Install folder
  58.  
  59.      8. Click at the icon next to the Multimedia Device Support option
  60.  
  61.      9. Select "<< Remove" to remove "Sound Blaster..." driver or any audio
  62.         drivers on the right window.
  63.  
  64.     10. Select OK to continue.
  65.         Note: Please note that a "Multimedia Device Setting" dialog will
  66.               appear on your screen, and the selection under Multimedia
  67.               Device Support option will become "None". If you do not get
  68.               this, please proceed to Section B for RE-INSTALL OS/2 Warp on
  69.               your system. Otherwise, please continue the installation
  70.               below.
  71.  
  72.     11. Select OK again in Multimedia Device Setting dialog box.
  73.  
  74.     12. Make sure that "None" is selected under Multimedia Device Support 
  75.         option. If yes, select OK to continue in the System Configuration 
  76.         screen.
  77.  
  78.     14. Check at the box next to Multimedia Software Support to indicate
  79.         the feature that you want to install on your system.
  80.  
  81.     15. Select Install to continue the installation.
  82.  
  83.     16. Continue and complete the installation by following the screen
  84.         instructions.
  85.  
  86.     17. Shut down and restart the system.
  87.  
  88.     18. Continue the installation to Step 27 of Section B.

  91. B. Install OS/2 Warp On Your System For The First Time
  92. ======================================================
  93. Because OS/2 Warp detects AZTECH Oriole family sound cards to be Sound
  94. Blaster compatible, OS/2 Warp will choose "Sound Blaster..." driver
  95. driver for the Multimedia Device Support under "System Configuration"
  96. screen during the installation. Therefore, this "Sound Blaster..." driver
  97. has to be removed in the System Configuration during the installation.
  98. Please read and follow the procedures below to begin OS/2 Warp
  99. installation. This section also applies when you want to reinstall OS/2
  100. Warp together with Sound Galaxy Oriole driver.
  101.    
  102.     19. Begin your OS/2 Warp installation according to OS/2 manual.
  103.  
  104.     20. The "System Configuration" screen will appear after rebooting the
  105.         system at the first time during the installation.
  106.  
  107.     21. Click at the icon beside the "Multimedia Device Support" when the
  108.         "System Configuration" screen pops up during the installation
  109.         process.
  110.  
  111.     22. Highlight and remove the "Sound Blaster ..." drivers from the
  112.         "Device[s] in System to be install" in the window on the right
  113.         hand side.
  114.  
  115.     23. Select OK The [None] option will be shown under the Multimedia
  116.         Device Support.
  117.  
  118.     24. Select O.K again and check that "None" is chosen under Multimedia
  119.         Device Support
  120.  
  121.     25. Continue and complete the installation of OS/2 Warp.
  122.  
  123.     26. Shut down and reboot the system after the installation is
  124.         completed.
  125.  
  126.     27. Open the Multimedia folder
  127.  
  128.     28. Open the Multimedia Application Install folder.
  129.      
  130.     29. Insert Sound Galaxy OS/2 Warp Audio Driver Diskette in floppy drive
  131.         A: or B:.
  132.      
  133.     30. Change the source drive to where the Sound Galaxy OS/2 Warp Audio
  134.         Driver diskette is.  (i.e. A:\ or B:\).
  135.       
  136.     31. Highlight "Sound Galaxy" feature and then select "Install".
  137.  
  138.      
  139.     32. Select "YES" in "Change CONFIG.SYS" dialog box and continue with
  140.         driver installation.
  141.      
  142.     33. Select "1" when the system prompts you to select the total number
  143.         of Sound Galaxy sound card.
  144.       
  145.     34. Select OK for using default setting. It is recommended that you use
  146.         the default settings for the Sound Galaxy Sound Card.
  147.            
  148.     35. System will then update the CONFIG.SYS file, and please follow the
  149.         on-screen instructions to continue the installation.
  150.      
  151.     36. Shut down and reboot the system after installation is completed.

  154. C. Installation of Sound Galaxy (Oriole) WIN-OS/2 Device Driver
  155. ===================================================================
  156.  
  157. Please note that any previously installed Windows sound card driver under
  158. DOS's Windows have to be removed before installing the WIN-OS/2 driver. If
  159. you receive "16-bit Audio Driver Alert" or a repeated syllable "TADA" sound
  160. during the opening of WIN-OS/2, please refer to Q1 of the Troubleshooting
  161. section at the end of this document
  162.    
  163.     37. Open the Command Prompts folder.
  164.  
  165.     38. Open the WIN-OS/2 Windows or Full Screen folder
  166.  
  167.     39. Open the CONTROL PANEL from MAIN group.
  168.  
  169.     40. Double click on the DRIVERS icon.
  170.  
  171.     41. Choose the "ADD" button to add a new driver.
  172.  
  173.     42. Highlight the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" item and then select the
  174.         "OK" button.
  175.  
  176.     43. Enter the drive and the path (i.e A:\WIN_OS2\ ) in where the Sound
  177.         Galaxy OS/2 Audio Driver is and then select OK button.
  178.  
  179.     44. Highlight the "16-bit Audio Driver" in the windows and then select
  180.         OK to continue.
  181.         * Note: If you receive a "Driver Exist" dialog box,
  182.         always choose New to install a new driver.
  183.  
  184.     45. Select Close to use the default setting in 16-bit Audio Board setup
  185.         windows.
  186.  
  187.     46. Select "Restart Windows Now" to restart the Windows in order for
  188.         the added driver to take effect.
  189.  
  190.  
  191. Troubleshooting Tips and Q&A
  192. ****************************
  193.  
  194. Q1) Receive "16-bit Audio Driver Alert" error message or a repeated
  195.     syllable of "TADA" wave file when you load WIN-OS/2.
  196.  
  197. A1) 1. Use "DRIVERS" program under CONTROL PANEL to remove the following
  198.     drivers from WIN-OS/2:
  199.  
  200.     16-bit Audio Driver
  201.     MicrosoftADPCM Audio CODEC
  202.     Microsoft Sound Mapper
  203.     Super Sapi FM Driver 
  204.  
  205. 2. Make sure that there is no Sound Blaster, Adlib, or any other vendors
  206.    drivers installed under "DRIVERS" program.
  207.  
  208. 3. After removing the above drivers, please exit WIN-OS/2 program.
  209.  
  210. 4. Proceed to the Installation of Sound Galaxy WIN-OS/2 Device Driver for
  211.    installing the new WIN-OS/2 galaxy driver.
  212.  
  213.    If the problem doesn't go away after you re-install the Sound Galaxy
  214.    WIN-OS/2 driver, please remove the following statements in SYSTEM.INI
  215.    file under your WIN-OS/2 windows:
  216.  
  217.    [386enh]
  218.    :
  219.    device=vsglx16.386
  220.    :
  221.  
  222.    [drivers]
  223.    :
  224.    wavemapper=msacm.drv
  225.    msacm.msadpcm.acm=msadpcm.acm
  226.    midi=sapi!opl.drv
  227.  
  228. After removing the above statements in SYSTEM.INI file, please re-install
  229. the Sound Galaxy WIN-OS/2 driver again.
  230.  
  231. Q2) Receive "SYS1719" Error Message which indicates that the file
  232.     C:\MMODEVICE specified in the DEVICE statement on the line xx of the
  233.     CONFIG.SYS file does not contain a valid device driver or file system
  234.     driver.
  235.  
  236. A2) If you receive this error message after removing Multimedia Software
  237.     Support from your system in the step A, this means that OS/2 didn't
  238.     modify your CONFIG.SYS file correctly. In other word, you need to help
  239.     OS/2 fix this problem before you continue the installation. Please
  240.     follow the instructions below to fix your CONFIG.SYS file.
  241.  
  242.     a. Open OS/2 System folder
  243.     b. Open OS/2 System Editor
  244.     c. Open C:\CONFIG.SYS file under your OS/2 root directory
  245.     d. Locate the line xx which is caused the error message. Most likely it
  246.     should be at the end of your CONFIG.SYS file. The following are the correct
  247.     statements which you should have in your CONFIG.SYS file and correct
  248.     them if you do have them right.
  249.  
  250.     :
  251.     DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\SSMDD.SYS
  252.     DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\R0STUB.SYS
  253.  
  254.     e. Save the file as the Plain Text file type
  255.     f. Close the OS/2 System Editor program.
  256.     g. Shut down the system and then restart the system.
  257.     h. Continue the installation in step A.
  258.  
  259.       
  260. Q3) The sound card still not work properly or there is no sound when you
  261.     play Wave file or MIDI file.
  262.  
  263. A3) Please check your OS/2 CONFIG.SYS and MMPM2.INI files for the following
  264.     statements. If they exists, please REMOVE them.
  265.  
  266.     * For example, if Sound Blaster Pro device driver is installed, the
  267.     following lines must be removed from the respective files.
  268.  
  269.     C:\CONFIG.SYS file
  270.  
  271.     Device=C:\MMOS2\SBP2D2.SYS 1 1 5 220 4 /N:SBAUD1$
  272.     Device=C:\MMOS2\AUDIOVDD.SYS SBAUD1&
  273.  
  274.     C:\MMOS2\MMPM2.INI file
  275.  
  276.     [Drivers]
  277.     Waveaudio = IBMWAVESB01
  278.     Sequencer = IBMSEQSB01
  279.     Ampmix = IBMAMPMIXSB01
  280.  
  281.     After all the previously loaded audio device drivers have been removed
  282.     and the system is rebooted, proceed to step 27 of Section B to
  283.     re-install the Sound Galaxy Sound Card Device Driver.
  284.     
  285. Q4) Why some Voyetra applications such as Audiostation and MIDI Orchestrator
  286.     do not work under WIN-OS/2 session ?
  287.  
  288. A4) As WIN-OS/2 is not 100% compatible with Microsoft Windows Sound System,
  289.     there might be problems encountered when running Voyetra application
  290.     like Audiostation and MIDI Orchestrator in WIN-OS/2 platform. To play
  291.     WAV or MIDI files, please use MediaPlayer in WIN-OS/2 instead.
