Below are Enhancements and Bug fixes made to XALL.SYS V 1.4.7
resulting in the new XALL driver V 1.4.8
1) Enhancements
- Support has been added to the driver for the EPC/X. See INSTALL.
DOC for installation directions.
- Command line parameter "/a:q" now turns off quick writes.
(See Manual Errata below and INSTALL.DOC)
- DMODE.EXE now runs in an OS/2 window.
- DMODE.EXE now supports "quick write" mode. (See Manual Errata
below and INSTALL.DOC)
- Upgraded to xxfep.bin V7.06 and xxbios V4.0.
2) Bug Fixes
- Fixed more mysterious hangs at boot time which could be seen on
Pentium and PCI bus computers.
- Set TX Low water mark to TxMax-1 instead of TxMax. This fixed
unreported bug where threads blocking for transmit room would
wake up immediately.
- Fixed bug that could cause DosClose to take several seconds.
- Fixed bug that could cause loss of transmit data on close using
C/X and EPC/X products.
- Changed default read and write timeouts from 1 second to 1
minute to match IBM COM.SYS driver.
- Fixed bug that would keep CTRL-BREAK from terminating application
threads in DosRead and DosWrite calls.
- Fixed bug that could cause IOCTl Fucntion 68h (Query RX queue
count) to return too large a count.
3) Known Limitations
- Maximum 256 channels.
- The COM/Xi is limited to 9600 or at most 19200 baud. The Xem
and AccelePort will support 115k and 230k on at least 16
ports respectively. The EPC/X will support 115k on at least 16
ports. All other intelligent cards will support 38.4K baud on
all channels, and 57K baud on a few channels.
4) Manual Errata
- The EPC/X board must be specified with a "/t:c" parameter
on the "device=" line in the config.sys file. (See INSTALL.DOC)
- The meaning of the "/a:q" command-line parameter has been changed.
Originally, this parameter enabled the driver's quick-write mode.
However, the use of this parameter did nothing, since the driver
defaulted to quick-write mode and there was no means by which to
disable it. With this release of the driver, the "/a:q" command
line parameter DISABLES quick-write mode. If you are currently
using this parameter, please review the quick-write discussion
in INSTALL.DOC.
- DMODE.EXE has been enhanced to permit quick-writes to be enabled
or disabled on a port by port basis. The new DMODE parameters are
QW=ON and QW=OFF. For a discussion of quick-writes, please see
INSTALL.DOC.
