  1. Thank you for your interest in Notify! - a simple and non-intrusive
  2. way to notify end-users of incoming e-mail!

  4. You must unzip the VDLOS2.ZIP file in the same directory in which
  5. you install the Notify! Application (OR elsewhere within your
  6. LIBPATH statment).  This ZIP file was retrieved from the Lotus
  7. Communications Forum on compuserve and contains the Latest Rev
  8. of the VIM DLLs needed to run Notify! and other VIM enabled applications.

  10. For ease of use, copy all of the accompanying files to a shared Network
  11. directory and add ?:\NOTIFY.EXE to the end users Startup.cmd file.
  12. The DLLs must be loadable by each workstation - this can be accopmlished
  13. by making the directory in which the Notify.exe file is located, the
  14. current directory, then run the application.  Be Sure that a .; is included
  15. in the LIBPATH statement of the CONFIG.SYS file so that DLLs in the
  16. current directory are searched for first.

  18. (Using a Network Drive makes it easier to terminate the Notify
  19.  command company wide).

  21. Upon running Notify! for the first time on each system, C:\OS2\NOTIFY.INI
  22. will be created.  You must first Log in to the end-users e-mail before
  23. continuing with the application.  When promped, enter the Post Office
  24. directory, User Name, and password.  After successfully logging on, the
  25. Notify will not require this procedure again, unless you choose Re-initialze
  26. in the settings window.

  28. Why did I write this?
  29. Under OS/2, there isn't a notify command for cc:Mail that I have found
  30. that doesn't intrude upon other applications.  In fact, under certain
  31. circumstances, I've had many systems hang due to the notify that comes with
  32. cc:Mail being run on the system.  Shutdowns have also been quite a problem.
  33. This Notify will take care of that - it is purely Presentation Manager, so
  34. DOS and Windows apps are not disturbed. (However, realize that when in
  35. a fullscreen mode for OS/2, DOS, or windows, the popup window will NOT
  36. display over the top of the running app - this will only occur under
  37. Presentation Manager.)

  41. What does it cost?
  42. This is shareware, if you use this application for more than thirty
  43. days, you are expected to register it.  The cost is quite minimal,
  44. $1 per workstation is a reasonable amount I believe. (With a Cap of
  45. $100 - if you have 250 workstations, only 100 licenses at most are
  46. required to be payed for.)
  47. By registering it, you are not only doing an honest thing, but I will
  48. send you the new version that will allow you to specify where the INI
  49. file is located and the name of it (For multiple Notify's per system)
