Golden CommPass 2.22a
=====================
Congratulations on selecting Golden CommPass version 2.22 as your navigation
program for accessing the CompuServe Information Service. Golden CommPass is
the ONLY CompuServe navigation program to fully automate access to the
CompuServe Information Service while working in conjunction with OS/2 to
provide the best possible performance, while also providing maximum
flexibility, for the user.
Installation
============
Golden CommPass is distributed as a PKZip file (electronically), or on a
single high-density diskette.
The following files are included:
READ.ME The file that you are now reading
SOFTWARE.USE Golden CommPass software license agreement
INSTALL.EXE The Golden CommPass installation program
INSTALL.HLP Golden CommPass installation help
GCP222.PRG Golden CommPass distribution library
If you received these files electronically, they can be copied to a single
high-density diskette (or a separate subdirectory on your hard disk) and
installed from there.
To start the installation program, simply type:
A:INSTALL
Advanced Installation Options
=============================
The installation program supports the following command line options. These
options are provided to allow for an unattended installation across a LAN.
/NODESKTOP - Bypass creation of Golden CommPass objects on OS/2 desktop
/NOPROMPT - Do not prompt user. Take all defaults.
/INSTALL="target path" - Install Golden CommPass in the target directory
path specified. You must enclose the path in
quotes.
/SOURCE="source path" - Install Golden CommPass from the directory
specified. You must enclose the path in quotes.
Golden CommPass Documentation
=============================
All of the Golden CommPass documentation is included on the distribution
diskette. If you choose to install the documentation, a number of .DOC
files will be copied to your installation directory. The files are named
in the following format CHAP-x.DOC where x is 1 through 14 for chapters 1
through 14 and APP-x.DOC where x is A through G for Appendix A through
Appendix G. The introductory material is in GCP21.DOC and an index is
included in INDEX.DOC.
Supplemental information on version 2.22 can be found in GCP220.DOC and
GCP222.DOC.
Backup Critical Files
======================
There are two files that Golden CommPass frequently updates that are
relatively small, and you should keep a backup copy readily available. In
fact, we recommend that you keep a backup available on your hard disk. The
files you need to back up are:
COMMPASS.INI
USERID.CIS
PARAMS.CIS
These files contain all the information about your User ID(s), forum
options, window positions and colors, and almost all of the other Golden
CommPass options.
In addition to these two files, you may also want to periodically back up
your USERID.CIS file. This file contains your address book entries.
Upgrading from prior versions
=============================
To upgrade from Golden CommPass version 2.0, 2.1 or 2.11 follow the
installation instructions above. You can install version 2.1 in the
same directory as the prior version. Do NOT overwrite your
COMMPASS.INI, USERID.CIS or PARAMS.CIS file.
If you are upgrading from Golden CommPass version 2.1 or earlier, you
will also need to convert your PARAMS.CIS file to the new format. After
the installation program has completed, open the Settings notebook
(on the Options menu) to the Parameters page.
1. Make a backup copy of your PARAMS.CIS file by pressing
the CLONE button and supplying a backup extension (ie, BAK).
2. Press the CONVERT button to convert your PARAMS.CIS file to
the new Golden CommPass format, which is capable of storing
up to 100 forum definitions and 30 telephone numbers.
NOTE: The Golden CommPass format is also required to use the
new intelligent subject marking options.
3. Close the Settings notebook by double-clicking on the title
bar icon, or by pressing ALT+F4.
Closing clipboard objects
-------------------------
With this release of Golden CommPass, it is necessary for you to close
any clipboard objects (message subject lists) by double-clicking on the
title bar icon or by pressing ALT+F4 prior to starting an on-line session.
