They were taken as pets and service animals, and people only gradually noticed that their "pets" composed poetry and solved differ- ential equations in their free time. Rubblemunchers are silicon-based life-forms. Because of their mineral diet, they require no normal food and are amazing ore-miners. Except for a violent allergy to luxite, they might be the galaxy's dominant life form.
