TIPS
* If you have Windows 3.1, then you have the MSD program. The MSD
program also comes with Windows 3.1. When you install Windows 3.1,
the setup program places MSD.EXE in your Windows directory. Just go
to the system prompt and run the program.
* If you don't have Windows 3.1 or DOS 6, you can obtain a shareware
program that is very similar to MSD. This shareware program is called
ASQ. It will analyze your computer system and save the results as a text
file.
* If the battery in your computer goes dead, you will lose your computer's
CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) SETUP
information. This is generally refered to as SETUP information.
Sometimes computers lose the SETUP for unknown reasons. Then your
hard drive will not work until you get this SETUP information back.
Save the MSD information as a text file on a diskette. See the
previous section for information on how to accomplish this task. Label
the disk and keep it in a safe place. It contains a lot of the SETUP
information and could really save the day.
WARNING: Do not change the information in your CMOS SETUP
unless you know exactly what you are doing. Be careful if you go into
CMOS SETUP on your computer. Exit the program without making
changes. Changing the information could result in your computer's hard
drive not working. If you do go into it, take the time to write down all
the information so you will be able to restore it in an emergency.
Running SETUP is best left to an experienced computer person. If you
lost your SETUP and don't have the information, don't panic! Computer
dealers are quite familiar with this problem, and most will know how to
fix it.
