Welcome to NetTalk and Nettalk+PLUS
TO: Install Windows - FROM WINDOWS Program Manager, Select File
then RUN A or B:\NETTALK\INSTALLW
TO: Install DOS - copy all the files in this NETTALK directory to
a public or common directory and type SETUP.
Windows version
Remember NETTALK+PLUS is for WINDOWS ONLY. You need to then go to
NETTALK+PLUS SETUP to add/edit users. This is important because
you are the NETTALK+PLUS "supervisor" and to add/edit/delete names,
you need to go to SETUP to do this. Please note that the name you select
must be their Novell user name. In addition, each additional user needs
to run INSTALLW to add Windows icons.
DOS version
If you want to try the DOS version type SETUP to install yourself and go
to each PC and run SETUP to install that user. Then
type LANTSR to load the popup TSR on each PC. If you do not
load the LANTSR you cannot send to any other PC. Please note DOS users
do not have In/out box, telephone directory, and a whole bunch of features
found only in the Windows version.
HEY, we are here to help you. So call us and we will, at least
try to, walk you through this.
Best regards, Tom Cross - 303-440-7313.
ERRATA
NOTE: For information on the Windows version, read
WIN.DOC - thanks.
If you get a RED ERROR box, you do not have a TEMP
directory. You must have a TEMP swap file in
your autoexec.bat file. It should look like this:
SET TEMP=C:\temp
and make a directory called TEMP, i.e. md TEMP.
Change the disk drive from C to A if there is
no hard drive or use a network drive, i.e, A: or X:.
Type DIR to see a list of your directories.
We have also found that even though you may have a TEMP
directory in your autoexec.bat, it may NOT exist as a
real directory, so check your directories.
Version 2.12 (or later) requires the use of HIMEM.SYS.
In addition, system performance will be increased if
you use either EMM.SYS (286 class PCs) or EMM386.EXE
(for 386/486 PCs). You should place in your
CONFIG.SYS, the following notes:
device=C:\dos\himem.sys
dos=high,umb
for 386/486 PCs add:
device=C:\dos\emm386.exe RAM 64
NOTE: This assumes that HIMEM.SYS, EMM.SYS,
and/or EMM386.EXE is in the DOS directory.
Please refer to the file on this disk called
MEMORY.TXT for help with memory and the file
called NOVELL.DOC for help with Novell "rights."
The NetTalk documentation is contained in 2
files, NetTalk.DOC is in Microsoft WORD format
and NetTalk.TXT is in ASCII.
To change the HOTKEY (popup command),
at the DOS prompt in the NETTALK directory,
type SETUP, then select F4, then select the HOT
key you desire, the F10 to save it. Then reboot
your PCs and it will then take effect. Please note
only the NETTALK supervisor (who was the first person
to install NETTALK) is the ONLY person who can change
the HOTKEY. All users can go into SETUP and see what
the HOTKEY is but cannot change it. The HOTKEY is a
system-wide option. Sorry, each user cannot have their
own different HOTKEY.
If some of your users are using black and white or
other monochrome monitors, you may want to change
their presentation mode. To do this at the DOS prompt
before loading LANTSR, type:
mode BW80
This makes NETTALK easier to read. If you want to return type:
mode CO80
or reboot the PC. You can add this to their Autoexec.bat if
you want a permanent change.
If you have any problems, please call us at
303-440-7313 or FAX 442-2616.
Thanks for using NetTalk.
