  10. taken a giant step forward in integrating the office LAN into a
  11. seamless business communication system.  The LANtastic system is
  12. flexible enough to allow you to configure your network as peer-to-
  13. peer, dedicated server, or a combination of both. You'll print

  24. Version 6.0 continues advancing network speed, with up to 15% faster
  25. data transfer than  v5.0. LANtastic software is now modular, so you
  26. only load the server features you need.  A burst mode transfers data
  27. faster, while using less memory. Built-in file and record  locking
  28. add to LANtastic v6.0's performance.

  32. This LANtastic network is ready for today's offices that have more
  33. than one network in place. LANtastic clients connect seamlessly with
  34. NetWare(R) Core Protocol (NCP) servers and with Server Message Block
  35. (SMB) protocol used in Windows(tm) for Workgroups,  Windows NT and
  36. LAN Server.

  38. Integrated Artisoft Office mail and scheduler
  39. Perhaps the most exciting addition to LANtastic is Artisoft Exchange
  40. communications.  This built-in store-and-forward system includes
  41. sophisticated electronic mail. But  that's only the beginning.
  42. Artisoft Exchange communicates through fax, pagers and  links to
  43. external mail systems such as MCI Mail and MHS-compatible systems.
  44. Artisoft  Exchange integrates LANtastic's network user account
  45. database with the mail directory  for easy installation and
  46. management. A built-in personal and group scheduler uses the  mail
  47. transport system to help coordinate meetings and appointments for the
  48. entire office. Artisoft Exchange is part of LANtastic 6.0's Windows
  49. interface. It uses the network  accounts and resources you've already
  50. set up for the Mail and Scheduler. When you  change an appointment
  51. for a group of users, the Scheduler sends a mail message notifying 
  52. users of the change.

  54. The flexibility of a true peer system
  55. Many other network operating systems require a dedicated server -- a
  56. separate computer  to run the network. The LANtastic system lets you
  57. choose whether to dedicate a server  or run the server on someone's
  58. workstation. Every PC -- even an XT model with 640K of  RAM and a
  59. 20MB hard drive -- can be a workstation, using network files and
  60. resources.  Or any computer can be a true peer -- a server sharing
  61. its resources while it is also  someone's workstation. Any server can
  62. use the built-in ALONE(tm) program to dedicate  its resources (such
  63. as files, storage, disk and CD-ROM drives, printers and other 
  64. peripherals) to other computers on the network.

  66. There's still more. If your office needs a server for general tasks
  67. or a specialized  use, you can optimize it for your specific purpose,
  68. be it as a file server, a print  server or a central database. You
  69. can use it to maintain for user accounts and security,  for managing
  70. network stations remotely, for remote booting or a number of other
  71. uses.

  73. Managing the network
  74.  Managers on a LANtastic network are authorized to remotely control
  75. servers or set  up central network services. This version of
  76. LANtastic enables a network manager to  check every server's
  77. configuration, status and performance. Screen and sound alerts  tell
  78. when a server 's workload exceeds the thresholds you set.

  80. A network manager can also import and export user accounts in several
  81. text formats,  where they can be managed in an external database. To
  82. set up a new user, the  administrator simply adjusts a standard
  83. configuration to the person's access rights.  Access Control Lists
  84. (ACL) and group accounts simplify security settings for groups  of
  85. network users.

  88. LANtastic networks have been hailed for sophisticated security.
  89. Thirty levels of  security define which users have access to hard
  90. drives, subdirectories and individual  files on the network. Because
  91. many network users have similar privileges, managers can set up
  92. standard Access Control Lists for groups of users, assigning
  93. identical privileges to many people at once. Within those groups, the
  94. manager can make exceptions for individual users.

  96. Advanced print job control 
  97. LANtastic network users can send print jobs to any network printer --
  98. not just those  attached to a server. LANtastic v6.0 enables any
  99. workstation to run a simple TSR  (terminate and stay resident)
  100. program to take over a print server's job. The workstation collects
  101. print jobs from multiple servers across the network and sends them to
  102. as many  as seven attached printers. You're free to put your printers
  103. in the most convenient  places.

  105. Versatile printing capabilities have long been a LANtastic hallmark.
  106. The network lets  you print a file before that file is completely
  107. stored in the printer server's queue,  or specify a later time to run
  108. a long print job when it will not tie up the system.

  110. LANtastic v6.0 is more flexible, with features for larger offices,
  111. easier network  management, and the ability to connect to other
  112. networks.   LANtastic lets you choose whether to use DOS menus or
  113. Windows controls. It supports  any adapter driver that meets the
  114. Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) industry  standard. 
  115. LANtastic networks now have more features to help manage a large
  116. office or workgroup.  Modular servers let you load only the features
  117. you need when you're concerned with the  network's memory
  118. requirements.
