DM_MODEM
The only way to run DOOM over the modem!
Programs compiled
by
Bob Bruno from SHOCK! BBS
(802) 868-5274
This is not an original program by me. It is a compilation of other
programs that I have found to work with modem to modem play.
I have included the programs as I recieved them. The only thing I will take
credit for is INSTALL.BAT and RM.BAT as well as the many hours of tinkering
with parameters and other programs that only succeeded in failing.
Please obide by any of the authors requests regarding anything that they have
in their docs. They have probably spent much time writing and debugging the
programs.
I make no guaranties that these program will work on your system. I also cannot
guarantee that they will not trash your DOOM program (or anything else). I can
only guarantee that they work on my system.
This end product would not have come to being without the help of my friend
and DEATHMATCH opponant, Dave Yergeau of LATE NITE BBS (802) 524-1785
We have collectivly spent over 100 hours in research and trail and error
efforts in getting this package ready.
Now, on to the instructions.
If you have a computer and also have fingers, most of the work is already done.
Oh yeah, Ya gotta have DOOM too.
*Installation*
------------
Create a directory called INSTALL on the same drive that you have DOOM.
If you have doom on your C drive you would type the following from your
ROOT directory:
MD install
Unzip this package into this new directory and change to the directory.
Run Install.bat with the following command line parameters:
INSTALL <DRIVE> <DIRECTORY>
So, say that you have DOOM in c:\doom then the above would look like this:
INSTALL C: DOOM (Notice NO "\")
This will make a backup of all files that are modified and unzip and copy all
of the needed files into your DOOM directory take you into the setup program.
A small note. The setup program (DMQKCGF.EXE) will ask you for the COM port
number, Speed and then finally the modem you are using. The speed will not
change from the 19200 that is shown. I have no idea why the author put it in
there that way but it works at 19200 regardless of the actual connect speed.
Also, I have included another file called DOMOHELP.ZIP. This is a file with a
list of various modem init strings. I included this incase the default string
that DMQKCFG.EXE does not work right for you.
*Running the Damned thing*
--------------------------
This is where the fun starts!
Change to your DOOM directory and run RM.BAT with the following Command line
parameters:
RM <MODE> <PORT>
MODE is either L for non modem play or M for modem to modem play.
PORT is the com port number 1 for COM 1 or 2 for COM 2.
So if you are running modem to modem with COM1, the command would be:
RM M 1
If you are running the game local (no modem play) the command would look like
this:
RM L
That's just about it. I can't (And won't) guarantee that this setup will
work for you. It works for me (and Dave).
If you experience problems, need a customized setup, or just wanna play, please
get in touch with me at my BBS or call me voice at (802) 868-5081 anytime.
Good luck and use the power wisely my son!!!
