Dear Nigel
Dr Danny A A Fagandini (Dulwich) has sent me a file with some 'old'
Easter dates. I include it on this disc. Data from Danny has always
been most reliable. He always checks one source against a second
independent source before publishing data.
The dates he gives are based on the Julian calendar up to the 1582 and
on the Gregorian calendar after that year so the algorithms which I
sent you gives different dates between 1582 and 1752 from those
supplied by Danny. The crucial question to answer for years between
1582 and 1752 is "In order to preserve the simultaneous celebration of
Easter in countries having the (new) Gregorian calendar and those
retaining the (old) Julian calendar, did the date of Easter fall
outside the usual limits (ie earlier than the 20th March) in those
countries retaining the Julian calendar?"
Yours sincerely
Gerald L Fitton
