Easter Ecclesiastical Kinsella Fitton
Dear Nigel
As I said in my last letter to you, I have been sent a BASIC program
which calculates Easter Sunday from 1200 onwards. Brian Edwards has
written to me giving me permission to send it to you.
He has also sent me the algorithm for the calculation of Easter which
he used in his BASIC program. I have converted that algorithm to a
PipeDreamá4 custom function which is in the file I have called
[c_Easter2] on this disc. I have not thoroughly checked the custom
function but all the years I have tried do match both your algorithm
and the BASIC program sent to me by Brian.
You will see that the algorithm used by Brian has built into it the
year 1752 as the year for the change from Julian to Gregorian. I have
written the custom function in such a way that this can be changed with
relative ease.
I shall be most grateful for any comment you have on the algorithm and
any data you have of specific 'old' Easter dates which could be used to
check the algorithm as well as its implementation by means of the
custom function.
Finally, I am looking forward to the the ecclesiastical calendar when
you have done a little more work on it.
Yours sincerely
Gerald L Fitton
