Dear Database Friends,
The Distributed Object Computing Department of GTE Laboratories is
pleased to offer The Program Committee Chairperon's Aide (PCA). You can
obtain PCA via anonymous FTP from ftp.gte.com (132.197.8.2) in the
"pub/dom/software" directory. PCA was redisgned by Emon Mortazavi from
two earlier versions written by Jean-Roch Schmitt, Centre de Recherche
en Informatique, University of Paris, France; and Christoph Quix and
Martin Staudt, RWTH Aachen, Germany.
PCA permits you to characterize (manage information about):
- A conference -- themes or topics, categories of submissions
(research, experience, or vision), customizable grading scheme
(0-3 = reject, or maybe 0-5 = reject), letters, and review forms
- The Program Committee -- names, postal and e-mail addresses, and
conference themes in which they declare expertize or interest
- The submissions -- title, authors, primary contact, the category and
themes declared by the authors, word-count, etc.
It then helps you perform several tasks, including:
- generate letters to be sent by e-mail or regular mail:
+ to acknowledge reciept of submissions
+ to ask for information missing from submissions
+ along with review forms
+ to remind reviewers of late reviews
+ to inform the authors of acceptance or rejection of their submission
+ to thank the PC members
- suggest reviewers for papers based on paper's theme(s) and reviewers'
expertize/interest
- analyze results of reviews
- produce statistics and summaries for discussion at PC meetings
- accept, reject, or continue considering papers, during PC meetings
- generate status reports at any time
It is a Cooperative Information System in that it has several components
that cooperate to do the above. It is Macintosh-based and uses
Hypercard, a word processor (we used MS Word), a spread sheet (we used
MS Excel), and an e-mail package.
PCA is free. It is, however, as is. PCA and its predecessors have been
used to run four international conferences, so the tires have been
kicked. But as with any software, there might be some bugs or caveats.
Bugs/problems can be reported to emon@gte.com, however, do not expect
full support. Also, if you modify the stacks' functionality, please
send a copy to emon@gte.com, to incorporate them in future releases, if
possible.
