  10.  
  11. When executing a backup, the Network Archivist backup aborts with
  12. a 2031 error followed by an 811 error containing debug
  13. information.
  14.  
  15. Cause
  16.  
  17. The Network Archivist generates a 2031 error when a bad link is
  18. encountered in the delete chain of a history database. Typically,
  19. this corruption can be caused by aborted backups resulting from
  20. events such as power failures, reboots, server crashes, dropped
  21. connections, and network errors. File system problems and
  22. hardware faults have also been known to cause database
  23. corruption.

  25. Solution

  27. STEP 1:   Obtain a copy of the database repair utility SNAPDEL
  28. from the Palindrome BBS (708-505-3336). The file to download is:
  29.  
  30. SNAPDEL.ZIP    SnapDel for version 2.x
  31.  
  32. STEP 2:   Determine which volume(s) to repair (this is the volume
  33. on which the 2031 error occurs).
  34.  
  35. STEP 3:   Change to the \TNA directory on the target volume and
  36. copy SNAPDEL.EXE to the directory.
  37.  
  38. STEP 4:   Run "SNAPDEL /F\TNA > SNAPDEL.OUT". This will allow the
  39. utility to scan and repair the history database (AV*.PAC files)
  40. of the current volume. All output will be redirected to the
  41. output file name specified (SNAPDEL.OUT) and will be located in
  42. the \TNA directory on the target volume.

  44. If you have installed the Network Archivist in a directory other
  45. than \TNA, substitute that path for "\TNA" in the command given
  46. above.

  48. Repeat STEP 3 and STEP 4 for all volumes needing repair.

  51. The contents of the SNAPDEL.OUT output file will contain header
  52. information lines. If SNAPDEL detects a problem, it will be
  53. repaired and a "REPAIRING DELETE CHAIN" or similar message will
  54. be written to the output file. Consider retaining these logs for
  55. future reference.
  56.  
  57. SNAPDEL is only intended to repair 2031 database integrity
  58. errors. This utility will not repair other database integrity
  59. errors.
  60.  
  61. Recurring history database corruptions are not normal. Any
  62. installation experiencing recurring database corruptions should
  63. investigate the cause of these problems.
