  3. The novel begins with a meeting of the animals called together
  4. by old Major the most respected pig on the farm.
  5. Major recounts a dream of the future when the 'tyrant man'
  6. will be overthrown and the animals shall rule the earth.
  7.     
  8. His words and a rebellious song he teaches them stir the
  9. animals' emotions but they take no action immediately and the
  10. noisy meeting is eventually broken up by a blast from the
  11. shotgun of Farmer Jones.

  13. Old Major dies three days later but the spirit of his
  14. philosophy is carried on by the other pigs notably Snowball
  15. and Napoleon.

  17. By Mid-Summer the discontented animals have finally had more
  18. than they can stand of the inefficient and lazy Jones and he
  19. is suddenly driven from the farm.
  20. The animals celebrate their victory and led by the pigs adopt
  21. a code of behaviour known as the Seven Commandments.

  23. The animals conduct a successful harvest and turn their
  24. attention to education and self-improvement.
  25. Napoleon and Snowball continue to have the most to say when it
  26. comes to important decisions and it is noticeable that the
  27. pigs are eating better than the other animals although this is
  28. shown to be for the good of all.
