PWMENU.LBR MAKES PERFECT'S MENU BETTER
I would like to describe a shareware program that has made my use
of Perfect Writer easier. Shareware means that if you like the
program and intend to use it, then you should send the author
money. In this case, I think that the ten dollars is more than
worthwhile. The program MENU.COM replaces the 22k menu that
comes with your Kaypro, has more features, and only takes up 8k.
That's good news for you Kaypro II owners, more disk space on A:.
As far as I know, this program will work only on 83 II's or 4's.
The directory option on the menu, @b[D], will show in addition to
the file names, the size of each file and the amount of space
left on the disk. No need for D or STAT to check disk space. In
addition, if you hit the ESCAPE key, the directory stays up and
you can select what to do next. This helps me because I
sometimes have problems remembering exactly how I spelled a file
name.
On the @b[E] edit a file(s), you can specify more than one file
to edit! The last file typed is the one that you will see on the
screen and the others are assigned to buffers that can be changed
to with Control X B <buffer>. The names of the buffers are
displayed with a Control X Control B while in edit mode.
I am really excited about the new @b[F] format a file option.
When you format a file and get an error, the screen does not
erase like with your old menu.com until you hit a key. Thus, you
can see shat the error was. The biggest advantage is in
formatting a file to the console. When you can select a device
type, it will pop up a list from which you can select. When the
formatting begins, you can see what the pages would look like on
your printer!! Imagine that, pagebreaks with Perfect Writer!
Does this convince you that this program is worth more than $10.
How about that you can also change disk with the @b[L] log drive
and not get BDOS errors. The program is on our bulletin board on
b6: which can be reached by typing SECTION WORDPROC. The file is
PWMENU.LBR which also contains a doc file. The author is Douglas
Sears and his address is P. O. Box 5285, Eugene, OR 97405.
