The most usual tabledrink was during the Middle Ages without any doubt the beer both in the lower and upper class households. Drinking water was often of poor quality and it could even be somewhat dangerous to drink it. Beer was prepared of countless different kinds for the table use: their own for upper classes and for the common people. Beer was obviously commonplace but high-quality beer was valued high even then. We do not know exact numbers but we do know however that especially german beer was shipped to the North over the Baltic Sea from L├╝beck, Rostock, Wismar and Danzig.
