  3.                                 
  4.                      A Utility for Users of
  5.                           RBBS-in-a-Box
  6.  
  7.      This system is designed to make it easier for you to search
  8. and list the files available on the RBBS-in-a-Box CD-ROM.  The
  9. utility VIEWDIR (View Directory!) will bring up our master FMS (File
  10. Management System) directory of files in exactly the format you are
  11. used to seeing it on the board with the most recent files displayed
  12. first. There is a built-in help system which is accessed by typing
  13. H while in VD.

  15.      To use VIEWDIR on the RBBS-in-a-Box CD-ROM go to the RBBS
  16. directory on the CD. (The DOS command would be CD\RBBS).  Then type:
  17. VIEWDIR to invoke the program.  It will look for your CDMASTER.DIR and
  18. DIR.DIR files at startup.  (Note: This version supports the "chaining"
  19. of FMS directories, so you will see a brief message indicating which
  20. additional files have been linked to the main directory when using it
  21. with chained directories.)  Once loaded, you can scroll back and forth
  22. through the directory.  Please note that it will be searching the
  23. current file and does so in the normal FMS reverse order, searching
  24. the newest files first.  (One other note: on chained directories, once
  25. it hits the end of the current file, pressing the Down Arrow key will
  26. cause it to automatically continue the search on the next file in the
  27. change.)

  29.    As you are viewing the directory files you can use the up and down
  30. arrow, PgUp and PgDn, as well as the Home and End keys.  Beware of
  31. Home...it works in conjunction with some other options listed below
  32. and it will respond differently depending on which of those options
  33. you have selected. There are several other options which I will detail
  34. for you.

  36. List -    Type L to List directory of Download categories.  Type
  37.           any other key to return to the files listing.
  38.  
  39.  Dir -    To view a particular category of files, select the Set
  40.           Dir option by type D.  Enter the category number that
  41.           you are looking for as either "15" or "015" (no quotes
  42.           needed.  To begin the display of those files press the
  43.           Home key.  Now, as you scroll back and forth, you will
  44.           only be looking at that specific category of files.

  46.           To return to a view of the entire directory, select the
  47.           Set Dir option again, and then press return in response
  48.           to the prompt for the category.

  50.  Find -   To Find a file type F.  The system will prompt what you
  51.           want to "Find".  This is the same as the Search function
  52.           on RBBS.  It not only searches the filename, but also
  53.           searches the description.  You can search on anything you
  54.           want, but don't use the "*.*" method...this is a straight
  55.           string search, not a DOS search!  It will usually begin
  56.           searching right away.  It can act a little strange if you
  57.           already have performed one search and are now  wishing
  58.           to do a second.  You can stop a search at any time by 
  59.           pressing the * key.  (Don't ask me why!)  Tip:  After
  60.           doing a "Find" I have found selecting "Find" and then
  61.           just pressing return in response to the next prompt will
  62.           return me back to the normal mode.  Play with it...you'll
  63.           get the hang of it.

  65.  Copy -   Will allow you to select a file for copying.  When prompted
  66.           you can enter the name of the file to be copied or hit
  67.           enter to point to the file to be copied.  VIEWDIR will then
  68.           ask for the destination.  Enter the drive or path to which
  69.           you want the file copied, then hit enter.  The file will be
  70.           copied to the specified directory.

  72.  View -   Will allow you to select a file for viewing.  When prompted
  73.           you can enter the name of the file to be copied or hit
  74.           enter to point to the file to be viewed.  VIEWDIR will then
  75.           ask for the destination.  Enter the drive or path to which
  76.           you want the file copied, then hit enter.  The file will be
  77.           viewed by the RBBS add-on program ZipTV by Samuel H. Smith.
  78.           Please see the documentation provied with ZipTV for details
  79.           on its use.  Suffice it to say it will conveniently let you
  80.           look at any file within a ZIP file.

  82.  Unzip -  Will allow you to select a file for unzipping.  When prompted
  83.           you can enter the name of the file to be unzipped or hit
  84.           enter to point to the file to be unzipped.  VIEWDIR will then
  85.           ask for the destination.  Enter the drive or path to which
  86.           you want the unzipped files to be copied, then hit enter.
  87.           The file will be unzipped into the specified directory.

  89.  Exit -   To exit, type X.

  91.      There are a number of other options, but the foregoing are the
  92. ones you will use most often.  If you get stuck, hit the Help key
  93. (Type H).  If you you have suggestions for improving VIEWDIR, please
  94. let us know!!  All suggestions will be carefully reviewed and
  95. implemented when feasible.  Updates will be regularly provided
  96. via both RBBS-PC of Chicago (708) 352-1035 and RBBS-PC of Fargo
