  5.      Welcome to the world of RBBS-PC!  As a Sysop (System Operator)
  6. I am sure you will share many of the same positive experiences that
  7. I and other Sysops have enjoyed since first setting up RBBS.  In
  8. addition to the many hours of enjoyment it has provided as a hobby,
  9. I can honestly say that the friends I have met through RBBS-PC are
  10. some of the best friends life can provide.  Many of those who I
  11. count as my closest friends today are friends I have met through my
  12. bulletin board.

  49. For those of you anxious to see what files are available on this
  50. disk, do the following:
  51.  
  52.      1.   Make your CD-ROM the default drive by typing the CD-ROM
  53.           drive letter, a colon (:) then hitting enter, i.e. D:
  54.  
  55.      2.   Change into the RBBS subdirectory by typing: CD\RBBS
  56.  
  57.      3.   Type: VIEWDIR   This will invoke the file directory
  58.           viewing utility included with your disc.  From VIEWDIR
  59.           you can look at the contents of a file, copy files or
  60.           unzip files.  For more information, see the VIEWDIR.TXT
  61.           file.

  92.      About the collection: This CD-ROM represents the fruits of
  93. seven years of daily work as a Sysop.  Literally thousands of hours
  94. have gone into maintaining the BBS as well as tracking and caring
  95. for the files you find permenantly etched on this CD-ROM.  This
  96. disc, with a collection of over 15,000 file entries, represents
  97. over 100,000 individual files which, if extracted from their
  98. respective ZIP files would occupy over 1.4 Gigabytes of space!! 
  99. And you have it all at your fingertips!  The process of organizing,
  100. duplicate file checking and prepartion for CD-ROM production for just
  101. this one update took over 400 man hours to complete.  We hope you
  102. like the results.

  104.      About the layout:  The files are organized alphabetically. 
  105. The files are distributed across 61 subdirectories named with the
  106. first four characters of the last file in that directory.  Thus,
  107. the file POSTER.ZIP would be in the POOL subdirectory, since
  108. alphabetically it falls between PHON and POOL.  While there are
  109. umpteen possible ways to structure a CD-ROM, we felt this was as
  110. reasonable as any others we considered.  For those running BBS
  111. systems other than RBBS, there is a FILES.BBS file list in each
  112. subdirectory.

  114.      About GIF files:  The GIF format for PC graphics has become
  115. popular over the past few years and many GIF files are sent to
  116. RBBS-PC of Chicago every week.  The problem is that there is seldom
  117. accompanying documentation providing artist and copyright
  118. information.  Unfortunately, there has been wholesale copying of
  119. materials from all forms of magazines without consideration of who
  120. owns the rights to what.  For this reason we have NOT included GIF
  121. files on this disc.  If someone wants to take the legal risk of a
  122. copyright infringement case (statutory damages can exceed $10,000
  123. per violation), feel free to add all the GIFs you want to your
  124. collection!
