Update report of Thunderbyte Anti-Virus utilities.
Prefixes:
'-' indicates a change that does not require user attention.
'->' indicates a modification that requires user attention, such as a
change in program invocation, etc.
5.04
----
General notes:
-> The TBAV Windows Icon has been changed. The new TBAV.ICO file has
been designed by Carla Cook.
- Added a small utility (GetBoot.COM) to copy the bootsector of a
disk to a file, to make electronic transport easier.
- New agents: SHARK B.V. (NL) and DataSecura (N) added.
See also Register.Nor.
- On our BBS you will find a graphics Windows menu interface for
TBAV (TbWin110.Zip).
- I (Frans Veldman) can be reached via the following Internet address:
Veldman@ESaSS.iaf.nl
TbDriver:
- TbDriver now clears the keyboard buffer before presenting a message.
TbSetup:
- TbSetup is now compatible with the DOS APPEND utility.
- TbSetup could hang the machine when a directory contained more than
256 executable files. Solved.
TbScan:
- Some cachers could cause TbScan to fail to detect some bootsector
viruses. Solved.
-> Removed option 'noavr'. We don't think it is going to be missed!
(If you want to scan without AVR modules, just delete them!)
- Added a new feature: auto heuristic level tuning. If TbScan
detects a virus on your system, it will anticipate and decrease
the heuristic trigger level. This will make the detection of
polymorphic viruses more reliable. If you don't like this feature
you can disable it with option 'noautohr'.
- TbScan is now compatible with the DOS APPEND utility.
- TbScan does now cause less false alarms with memory scanning.
TbClean:
- Fixed a bug causing a system hang after a DOS critical error.
TbMem:
- Some people reported system lock-ups under Windows. Although we
could not reproduce the problem, TbMem has been changed to
be more Windows aware.
TbDisk:
- Solved a bug that could cause a system hang while loading TbDisk.
- Enhanced direct disk access detection. TbDisk now even detects
some direct calls into BIOS.
TbUtil:
-> Command line options added. Options have been changed!
- If you want to restore the CMOS, partition code or bootsector,
you can now select which items should be restored.
-> Added a feature to clean bootsectors. Bootsectors of diskettes
can be immunized: the TbUtil bootsector code contains a
sophisticated self-check that will even detect stealth infections!
If the diskette is not bootable the bootsector code of the
diskette will automatically boot from the harddisk!
Use option 'immunize <drive>' to clean/immunize the bootsector of
the specified drive. If the drive specified is the C drive, the
master bootrecord (partition code) will be cleaned/immunized
instead.
- Added option 'patch'. This feature can be used to patch your
format program. The patched format program will automatically
write the TbUtil immune bootsector to the formatted diskette.
- The Thunderbyte partition code calculates the CRC of the
bootsector when booting. DOS 4 and above however stores a copy
of the volume name in the bootsector and thus the CRC will
change when you alther the volume name of the disk.
TbUtil now excludes the volume-area of the bootsector when
calculating the CRC.
TBAV:
- Changed the TbUtil menu to accomodate for the TbUtil changes.
