  3. Usage: TbUtil <options>

  5. Command line options available:
  6.  immunize <drive>       im  = Immunize/Clean boot/MBR of <drive>
  7.  patch    <filename>    pa  = Patch format utility <filename>
  8.  store    [<filename>]  st  = Store system information
  9.  restore  [<filename>]  re  = Restore system information
  10.  compare  [<filename>]  co  = Compare system information
  11. Sub-options of option 'Immunize':
  12.  norepeat               nr  = Do not ask for next diskette
  13. Sub-options of option 'Store':
  14.  description =<descr.>  de  = Add description to data file
  15. Sub-options of option 'Restore':

  21. It is HIGHLY recomended that you copy the TbUtil data file to a
  22. diskette. If your partition table gets damaged, you do not have
  23. access to your hard disks anymore, and you will need the data file!

  26. The information stored in this data file matches the current status
  27. of the PC completely! There is no need to restore the system layout.
  28. $
  29. The information in the CMOS data area has been changed.
  30. You can restore it if you want.

  32. The current partition table is NOT equal to the one stored into the
  33. TbUtil data file! It is recommended to restore it, except when you
  34. installed a new disk or changed your partition layout AFTER this
  35. TbUtil data file has been created.

  38. TbUtil data file! It is recommended to restore it, except when you
  39. replaced DOS AFTER this TbUtil data file has been created.

  49. message which tells you that this program writes directly to disk.

  55. TbUtil restored the CMOS data and/or partition table and/or
  56. bootsector of your hard disk!
  57. It is recommended to reboot the system now.

  63. If the machine does not boot properly, you can restore the original
  64. partition table using the 'restore' option of TbUtil, or by using
  65. the DOS 5+ 'FDISK /MBR' command.

  67. If the new partition code works properly,
  68. you should backup it to a floppy using the TbUtil 'store' option.

  71. Warning! You want to immunize and/or clean the partition code
  72. (master boot record) of your harddisk. TbUtil will create a new,
  73. clean and virus resistant master boot record. The new partition
  74. code will be fully compatible with the original one. However,
  75. it is recommended to store the original partition code on a
  76. diskette. You can do that with the command:
  77.         TbUtil store a:tbutil.dat

  126. If you attempt to boot from the diskette, the bootsector will check itself
  127. and allow you to boot from the harddisk without opening the drive door.

  133. The TbUtil patch option modifies an existing Format program in order to
  134. make the format utility automatically write the TbUtil immune bootsector
  135. to the formatted diskette, rather than the normal DOS bootsector.

  137. The functionality of the format program remains the same. There is only
  138. one restriction: the format utility can not be used anymore to format
  139. bootable hard disks. The original DOS format program or SYS command
  140. should be used for this purpose.

  147. The specified program might not be a format utility, or has been
  148. compressed, or builds the bootsector to be written dynamically.

  153. Please check the program to be sure that it is still in working order.

  155. Although TbScan will not issue a false alarm, it is recommended to
  156. use TbSetup to recalculate the main CRC of the changed format utility.
  157.  
  158. Note! Some anti-virus programs that calculate the checksum of the
  159. complete program file might cause a false alarm because the format
  160. utility has been changed. It is therefore recommended to re-calculate
  161. the checksum.
