Purpose/History:
DVNet was established in 1988 to foster support for
DESQview aware programs. Dave Chatfield proposed the
idea of a central respository for DV programs in the
Fidonet DESQview echo. Shortly after he made his
proposal, a number of Sysops requested he form a network
of affiliated BBS's. DVNet became one of the first
specialized software networks within Fidonet. It began
with a small number of boards and has grown rapidly
with the increasing popularity of DESQview.
The goal of DVNet is to provide free access to
software, using a centralized listing of programs to
users scattered around the world. Primary notification
remains the Fidonet DESQview message echo for the
listing of member nodes and for publication of the file
listing.
Quality control and the membership listing has made
DVNet a recognized source for software related not only
to DESQview but other Quarterdeck Office Systems
software, like QEMM the memory manager. DVNet has been
featured in articles in the California based computer
newspaper MicroTimes and in BoardWatch Magazine.
DVNet is not affiliated with Quarterdeck Office Systems.

└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Software distributed via DVNet must be public domain or
shareware. A program which is simply DESQview aware for
screen handling or time slice release is not considered
appropriate material for DVNet distribution. Other File
Distribution Networks such as SDN or SDS are more
appropriate channels.
DVNet exists to provide distribution for DESQview
specific programs or programs which truly enhance
operations under DESQview. Examples might be a program
which allows command line control of other DESQview
operations or which monitors carrier detect in another
window and acts accordingly upon loss of carrier.
Crippled releases containing counters or expiration
dates are NOT to be sent through the DVNet system.
Programs which offer additional features to registered
users, but otherwise contain no other restrictions, are
acceptable.

│ ▒▒▒▒▒ DVNet PROGRAM DISTRIBUTION ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Through DVNet distribution, programs are posted at
hundreds of BBS sites across North America, Europe,
Puerto Rico, Australia, Sweden, Germany and many other
countries. In addition to using the technology and
resources of Fidonet, DVNet also has distribution
access to the anonymous file distribution facilities of
Internet through the Simtel archives and the mirror
sites in North America, Europe and Australia.
DVNet reaches not only the BBS hobbyist user, but also
the academic and commercial users who are linked
internationally through Internet.
DVNet member systems are announced in a listing every
month in the Fidonet DESQview message echo. Users can
find the closest DVNet system to their calling area
from this listing. In addition, all files which are
distributed through DVNet are announced in the DESQview
echo as well as several other Fidonet message echos
related to software distribution. Once every two months
a complete listing of DVNet software is published in
the DESQview echo. This list is alternated with a
listing of new files added within the previous 30 days.
Distribution requires many long distance phone calls to
link DVNet nodes. DVNet's participating sysops pay the
costs for these links out of a dedication to the hobby
spirit and for the benefit of all DESQview and
Quarterdeck Office Product users.
DVNet policy is a service provided at no charge. There
is no fee, charge or commission for DVNet's
distribution services. DVNet is a hobbyist,
non-commercial and not-for-profit adventure.

│ ▒▒▒▒▒ DVNet PROGRAM SUBMISSIONS ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The best way to get a program into DVNet distribution is
to mail your program disk. Submissions should not be
crippled, demos or other non-productive items. DVNet
recommends following the guidelines of the Association
of Shareware Professionals.
At DVNet Headquarters, programs are scanned for any
viruses and all files are compressed into one
downloadable archive. A special compression security
envelope is appended each downloadable file. This
envelop is a tamper proof seal that can be verified by
receiving sysops and users.
You may request validation for uploading at high speeds
directly to 65' North BBS. Please enclose a
self-addressed, stamped envelope if you desire
validation for uploading.
Submissions via mail can be made to the following
address:
