  26.         Counts the number of trees in your PAF files. It helps you find
  27.         individuals (and groups) in your family history data base which
  28.         are not connected properly.

  33.         Are all the individuals in your PAF data base connected into one
  34.         family tree?  The old saying goes "You can't see the forest for
  35.         the trees," but the reverse may be true for a large genealogy data
  36.         base.  When we import GEDCOM files, or even when we do a large
  37.         amount of data entry ourselves, we may end up with many separated
  38.         small family  trees which cannot be located in the tangled forest
  39.         we have created.  It becomes harder  and harder to tell if we have
  40.         grafted all the branches in our file onto one large tree.

  42.         FOREST will count the number of independent trees in your data
  43.         base and  create a file called FOREST.PAF which lists the RIN
  44.         (record identification number), name, and tree number for each
  45.         individual.   It also produces a status report on the  screen
  46.         which tells the number of trees it has located and the number of
  47.         individuals on each tree.  A file called FOREST.LST provides a
  48.         summary as well.  You may optionally make  an  abbreviated file
  49.         called FORESTX.PAF which contains all individuals "eXcept" those 
  50.         who were included in the largest tree.

  52.         The word "tree" is used here in its mathematical sense, a branched
  53.         structure  of points (people) and connections (relationships).  A
  54.         tree consists of all individuals who  are linked in some way,
  55.         whether it be by birth OR marriage.

  58.         clear up connection problems in your PAF data.
