-- INTRODUCTION ------------------------------------------------------
The purpose of this document is to explain the user interface of
XACT-11C. It assumes that you are already familiar with the
Hewlett-Packard HP-11C. If you are unfamiliar with the HP-11C,
or would like more detail, you can obtain a complete user's
manual through our inexpensive method of registration.
-- KEYBOARD CONVENTIONS-----------------------------------------------
Within this document, XACT-11C function keys are denoted within a
box. For example, the function key for Cosine calculations is
shown as [Cos].
Keys on the PC keyboard are listed using single quotes such as 'a'.
Numbers to be entered into XACT-11C are shown in normal type, and
refer to the numbers on the numeric keypad.
-- FUNCTION KEYS -----------------------------------------------------
XACT-11C has approximately 70 different function keys. These
function keys are "mapped" to the PC keyboard. The function key
assignments are laid out on your PC keyboard in the same ordering
as on the HP-11C.
The function keys are contained within a box with the PC keyboard
mapping key shown immediately to the left of the box.
For example, the [Cos] function on XACT-11C is invoked by
pressing the letter 'r' on the PC keyboard. Likewise, the [Rcl]
function is invoked by pressing the letter 'b'.
Function keys may also be activated with a mouse (Commercial version
only) by pointing to a function and clicking the left mouse button.
-- PREFIX KEYS -------------------------------------------------------
Many of the functions on XACT-11C require the use of prefix keys.
The left shift key and the right shift key on the PC keyboard
operate as prefix keys. They are equivalent to the gold [f] key
and the blue [g] key on the HP-11C. Prefix keys allow you to
activate the upper and lower functions assigned to a PC key.
For example, to invoke the [CLx] function, you would first press
the left shift key, and then press the letter 'g'. Likewise, to
invoke the [Prfx] function, you would press the right shift key
and then press the letter 'g'.
-- ENTERING NUMBERS --------------------------------------------------
To enter numbers into XACT-11C, use the numeric keypad on the
right side of your keyboard. The standard PC keyboard has two
sets of numbers, one is just above the letters 'q', 'w', 'e',
'r', 't', 'y', etc., and the other is on the numeric keypad.
Since the numbers above the 'q', 'w', 'e', 'r', 't', 'y' are
mapped to XACT-11C functions, you must use the numeric keypad to
enter numbers.
Some laptop computers do not have numeric keypads on their
keyboards. In this case, to enter numbers into XACT-11C, you
should use the PC keys which are mapped to the numbers. For
example, use the letter 'j' as 1, 'k' as 2, 'l' as 3, etc.
-- SHORT CUT KEYS ----------------------------------------------------
You can use the Enter key on the PC, (also known as the Return
key) as the XACT-11C [ENTER] key as a short cut. Also, the '+',
'-', '*', and '/' keys adjacent to the numeric keypad function as
you would expect.
