The Norton pcANYWHERE/Host on Floppies
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although pcANYWHERE IV/Host (4.0Xx) & 4.5 were not designed to be run from
floppy diskette, it is possible to do so. Please see the lists below for
disks and requirements.

For best results, please install pcANYWHERE to a hard disk first, then copy
these files over to your floppy diskette.
Information for 5.25"/1.2MB, 3.5"/720K, 3.5"/1.44MB Formats:
The above files for these disk formats can be installed with all features of
pcANYWHERE 4.0Xx and 4.5. This includes system files, autoexec.bat and
config.sys files. Once completed the AWHOST can be run normally by typing
AWHOST.EXE. If you plan to have the computer accessed with no user involvement,
make sure to enable the Reboot on Disconnect or Reboot Always features found
under Preferences. Please add the following to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to allow
pcANYWHERE to start automatically:
PATH=%PATH%;A:\AW;
AWHOST -M=(A for "Exit, Allow Incoming Calls" or W for "Wait For A Connection")
Information for 5.25"/360K Formats:
The files listed on the previous page are the minimum files required for
pcANYWHERE to operate. Special operation instructions are required in order
for this to run properly. Please read the following completely before copying
the host files to the floppy diskette.
= The first step to working with pcANYWHERE 4.0Xx or 4.5 on 5.25"/360K
diskettes is to install and pre-configure pcANYWHERE before transferring
the files to the diskette.
= Second, make sure the files work by having a few remote control sessions
before transferring the files to the diskette. Once copied, the files
on this diskette can not be be re-configured. If you wish to reconfigure
your hardware or caller information files, you must refer to the hard
disk installed copy of pcANYWHERE.
= Third, copy the files listed under 5.25"/360K on the previous page to
the diskette, 4.0Xx and 4.5 respectively. Please notice that the main
AWHOST.EXE file is not one of the files transferred to the diskette.
Do not copy AWHOST.EXE to the diskette, doing so will leave your
diskette with no room for the other files. If you plan to have the
computer accessed without user involvement, make sure to enable the
Reboot on Disconnect or Reboot Always features found under Preferences.
Please add the following to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to allow pcANYWHERE
to start automatically:
PATH=%PATH%;A:\AW;
AWHOST -M=(A for "Exit, Allow Incoming Calls" or W for "Wait For A Connection")
Once this is completed, your pcANYWHERE floppy diskette is ready to be used and
will be executed every time the machine is rebooted.
4.0Xx Notes: This version is completely usable for serial commu-
nications. The only feature removed for space is the INT 14 driver.
If you plan to use the INT 14 driver for communications you must first
remove the AWDVR_C.OVL and copy the AWDVR_G.OVL to the diskette.
Remember to configure everything prior to copying all the necessary files
to the floppy diskette. You will not be able to change these configura-
tions on the floppy diskette. AWSEND and AWLOGOFF are not available.
This means no file transfers and typing AWLOGOFF at the host DOS will be
ineffective. To disconnect from a session, you must use the REMOTE hot
key menu option "End Session."
4.5 Notes: Unlike the 4.0Xx version of this floppy setup, the 4.5
version does not include the INT 14, mouse support or maximized screen
display speed options. Selecting these options will cause pcANYWHERE to
error upon initialization. If you plan to use the INT 14 driver for
communications you must first remove the AWDVR_C.OVL and copy the
AWDVR_G.OVL to the diskette. Remember to configure everything prior to
copying all the necessary files to the floppy diskette. You will not be
able to change these configurations on the floppy diskette. AWSEND and
AWLOGOFF are not available. This means no file transfers and typing
AWLOGOFF at the host DOS will be ineffective. To disconnect from a
session, you must use the REMOTE hot key menu option "End Session."
Other Information:
For formats other than 5.25"/360K, you may remove any installed options for
space and/or security reasons. Remember, you must keep at least one AWDVR file
for communications, it must be the one that you plan to use. The list of
available options and communications drivers are as follows:
AWSEND.EXE File transfer executable program.
AWSEND.OVL POP-UP file transfer overlay TSR.
AWLOGOFF.EXE Session disconnect executable program.
AWDVR_0.OVL Maximize Screen Display Speed overlay file. (4.5 only)
AWDVR_1.OVL Mouse overlay file. (4.5 only)
You must have at least one of the following files:
AWDVR_C.OVL Serial communications overlay file.
AWDVR_G.OVL INT 14 communications overlay file.
