Gateway Operations
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setup for Incoming Gateway (user calling into the LAN)
Only the Norton pcANYWHERE LAN supports Gateway Operations. To set-up an
incoming gateway for callers to call INTO the Network, set-up the gateway
machine as follows:
1. From the DOS prompt, load the appropriate network drivers ( IPX
or NETBIOS).
2. From the Norton pcANYWHERE LAN Main Menu,
a. Select "Gateway Operation".
b. Select "Incoming Configuration" and select the Hardware Configuration
that matches the gateway machine's modem.
c. Press ESC when you've chosen the correct configuration and save any
changes that were made.
d. From the Gateway Main Menu, select "Outgoing Configuration" and select
the Hardware Configuration that matches your network protocol (IPX or
NETBIOS).
e. Confirm that the "Use Gateway" field is set to No.
f. Press ESC when you've chosen the correct configuration and save any
changes that were made.
g. From the Gateway Main Menu, select "Activate Gateway"
The Gateway is now active. Any Remote user can now call into the Gateway
modem (Incoming Configuration) and attach to any Host that is available on
the Network via the Network protocol (Outgoing Configuration).
Setup pcANYWHERE Hosts for access through the Gateway
To set up Host workstations that callers may attach to through the Gateway,
set-up the Host machine as follows:
1. From the DOS prompt, load the appropriate network drivers ( IPX or
NETBIOS).
2. From the Norton pcANYWHERE LAN Main Menu
a. Select "Host Operation"
b. Select "Active Configuration" and select the Hardware Configuration
that matches the network protocol (IPX or NETBIOS).
c. Confirm that the "Use Gateway" field is set to No.
d. Press ESC when you've chosen the correct configuration and save any
changes that were made.
e. From the Host Main Menu, select "Begin Host Operation" then select
"Wait for a connection".
Remote users can now call into the Gateway machine and attach to this
Host workstation.
Setup for Outgoing Gateway (call into the LAN)
To set-up an outgoing gateway for callers to call OUT OF the Network, set-up
the gateway machine as follows:
1. From the DOS prompt, load the appropriate network drivers ( IPX or
NETBIOS).
2. From the Norton pcANYWHERE LAN Main Menu
a. Select "Gateway Operation".
b. Select "Incoming Configuration" and select the Hardware
Configuration that matches the network protocol (IPX or
NETBIOS).
c. Confirm that the "Use Gateway" field is set to No.
d. Press ESC when you've chosen the correct configuration and
save any changes that were made.
e. From the Gateway Main Menu, select "Outgoing Configuration"
and select the Hardware Configuration that matches the gateway
machine's modem.
f. Press ESC when you've chosen the correct configuration and save
any changes that were made.
g. From the Gateway Main Menu, select "Activate Gateway".
The Gateway is now active. Any Remote on the Network can now attach to the
Gateway machine through the network protocol (Incoming Configuration) and
attach to any external Host that is available (Outgoing Configuration).
To set up Remote workstations for outbound calls through the Gateway, set-up
the Remote machine as follows...
1. From the DOS prompt, load the appropriate network drivers ( IPX or
NETBIOS).
2. From the Norton pcANYWHERE LAN Main Menu,
a. Select "Remote Operation".
b. Select "Connect Via List of Hosts" and choose "ANYWHERE host via
IPX/NetBIOS", depending on your network protocol.
c. Select "View/Modify Host Entry" and press ENTER twice.
d. At the Configuration screen for that particular setup. Set the
"Device/Port" field to "Netware IPX" or "NetBIOS" and set the "Use
gateway" field to "Yes".
e. Press ESC when you've chosen the correct configuration and save any
changes that were made.
f. Press ESC once more. You should now be back to the Connect Options
Menu.
g. Select "Call" and select the Gateway you wish to attach to.
You are now attached to the Gateway's modem. At this point, the Norton
pcANYWHERE will prompt you for the phone number you wish to call. Once
that number is entered, the Gateway's modem will dial the number specified.
