The following is a list of common software and configurations that are known
to interfere with the operation of The Norton pcANYWHERE. For testing
purposes, please remove any TSR's and check modem connections.
MEMORY RESIDENT PROGRAMS (TSR's ) SUCH AS:
Side Kick Keyboard Command Repeaters Screen Savers
Keyboard Macros
MENU PROGRAMS TO AVOID:
NOVELL Menu Direct Access version 4.X or lower (Ver 5.0 works fine)
FDO (Fixed Disk Organizer) Word Perfect Menu Shell
FYI: Any menu program which stays resident in memory while other
programs are running should be removed.
DIRECT CONNECTS VIA NULL MODEM CABLE:
If you are using a custom or old cable, make sure the PIN-OUTS for the cable
match those shown in Appendix A page 183 "Modems & Cables" found in the back
of the pcANYWHERE user's manual.
EXTERNAL MODEM CABLES:
For regular connections to external modems, check to make sure the cable
supports pins 1-8 and 20, a total of 9 pins. A full 25 pin RS232
(standard serial cable) cable will work fine.
INTERNAL MODEMS:
PCANYWHERE is an interrupt driven program. This allows for greater speed
but can cause a problem if you are utilzing other equipment that is using
the same interrupt (IRQ). Standard communication ports are configured as
follows:
COM1: and COM3: use IRQ4
COM2: and COM4: use IRQ3
As you can see, there are only 2 interrupt levels for 4 Com ports. So for
example, if you have your internal modem on COM3: and a mouse on COM1:, they
will both be on the same interrupt and could cause problems. Examples of
such problems include modem not initializing, line drops due to loss of
carrier, remote connects with the Host but all you get is the pcANYWHERE
Terminal bar on the bottom of the screen. If you are experiencing any of
these problems, please check your systems interrupts.
