<< ZZNOTIFY >>
-- a free MHS gateway by Scott Wertz.
ZZNotify is a fairly simple MHS gateway with a fairly simple purpose:
it notifies users when they have mail messages waiting in their MHS
mailbox. It's designed so that you can specify how often you wish
to be reminded of waiting mail; the notification interval can be
anywhere from 1 to 1440 minutes (a whole day). When that time
interval has elapsed, ZZNotify goes through the entire list of users
defined at this host, and uses Novell's broadcast ("Send") messages
to remind them that they have not read their mail. A typical
notification looks like "You have 4 mail messages waiting.".
This is version 1.0 of ZZNotify. You are free to use and distribute
this program as long as you're not making a profit from it. This
version only notifies users who are logged into the same server as
your MHS machine. There is also a version 2.0 which has internet
capability, meaning that it will also notify users on non-routing
hosts that are serviced by your MHS server running ZZNotify, and
you can even specify different intervals for each host.
Version 2.0 costs US $25. See below for ordering information.
INSTALLING ZZNOTIFY
- - - - - - - - - -

2) Select "Routes to workgroups, hosts, and gateways"
3) Select "Add Entry"
4) Select "Define a gateway"
5) Enter the following:
Hostname: ZZNotify
Description: Notify Users of Mail
Gateway version: 70
Gateway commands: 60 <== enter your interval in minutes
6) Copy the INPOST.EXE file into the following directory:
COPY INPOST.EXE \MHS\MAIL\GATES\ZZNOTIFY\PUBLIC
7) Start the MHS Communications Manager.
Miscellaneous Notes
- - - - - - - - - -
o You can use any hostname you like for this gateway, but "ZZNotify"
is recommended so that it will run after all host connections are
completed and incoming mail is delivered.
o Keep in mind that ZZNotify only runs as often as your MHS host
cycles, and it can only notify users when it's run. So, if you've
asked for notifications every 5 minutes, but your host only cycles
every 15 minutes, you'll get notifications every 15 minutes.
o The current version resets itself at midnight, so even if users
were just reminded at 11:59pm and your interval is 90 minutes,
they will get another reminder on the next MHS cycle.
