  1.      The phone wire is acting as an antenna. Make sure the  modem

  3. is  screwed down to the computer case or the cable is screwed  in
  4.  
  5. at  both  plugs..  Some motherboards are not  grounded  (held  by
  6.  
  7. clips) and they should be grounded.
  8.  
  9.      Try some tinfoil around the phone wire, and the wire  should
  10.  
  11. be as short as possible.  Slide the foil up/down the sire to  de-
  12.  
  13. tune  it. This usually works, unless the house wiring is  picking
  14.  
  15. it up. then you may need a phone filter (from radio Shack etc).
