  1. For those who do not already know, Tektronix, Inc. has produced a
  2. version of the TekColor(TM) Editor based on the Athena Widget Set
  3. commonly known by its compiled name xtici (pronounced like
  4. xtike or ecstasy) and would like to announce the release of the 
  5. source code for use in the X Window System.  This source code has a 
  6. restrictive copyright and will not be included on the X11 
  7. Release 5 contrib software tape.

  9. What is xtici?
  10. -------------
  11. Xtici is an X Window Systems client that is based on the Xcms 
  12. enhancement in X11R5 and the TekColor(TM) Human Interface. The
  13. TekColor Human Interface is part of the TekColor Color Management
  14. System which is licensed by Tektronix, Inc.  The Xcms API Specification 
  15. and implementation is available through the MIT X Consortium.

  17. Xtici provides users with tools to specify, define, edit and manipulate
  18. colors using the TekHVC(TM) color space.  This interface is practical and
  19. easy to use.  The X Window System version is ICCCM compliant.  Xtici
  20. should provide users with new functionality in color management within
  21. the X Window System.  A similar system has proved very useful in the
  22. Macintosh environment.

  24. Finally, xtici is a sample client and as such shows how Xcms can be
  25. used for color manipulation.  It can be used as an example of how
  26. Xcms can be used by software developers.  It can also show how the 
  27. client-server model can be used to increase software productivity by making 
  28. a clean break between color selection and color usage.

  30. What xtici is not?
  31. ------------------

  33. xtici is not the ultimate color editor.  It is merely a demonstration
  34. of some of the capabilities that a color editor could have.  Further
  35. work on color editors has been left up to the you.

  38. --------------------

  40. There is a reference manual included in postscript format.  If you
  41. would like a hardcopy please send your name and address to 
  42. the name and address given below.

  44. The complete source code with the needed Imakefiles is included along
  45. with a set of sample resources (xtici.ad).  The Widget.Hierarchy
  46. file presents the widgets and their names.

  48. Building xtici:

  51. In order to build xtici you will need X11R5 Xlib, Xt and Xaw.  The
  52. Imakefiles have been tested on SUN and Tektronix workstations.  Xtici
  53. has been successfully built on SUN and Tektronix workstations.  It 
  54. has also been run on Tektronix X Terminals.  Any changes needed for 
  55. compilation in a particular environment can be made per the 
  56. copyright statement.
