  10. Almost Finished Features
  11. ────────────────────────
  12.     This is a Beta Release of WML ── I am still adding & developing features
  13. and there are some minor bugs hanging around.  I place items on the menus as
  14. a reminder for myself and to let you get a glimpse of forthcoming features.
  15. Hope this isn't a problem for anyone.

  17. 1. Mouse support is not installed on some screens, including Groups and
  18.    Abbreviations data entry; use keyboard instead.
  19. 2. Generic dBase file import doesn't do anything yet
  20. 3. ASCII import now works with 2 file types, and will be completely
  21.    definable soon.  Try it to see what's available.

  63.     The above files may be copied & shared freely as a complete, unmodified
  64. set. Files marked with [*] are not needed during operation of WML and may be
  65. deleted from a disk if space is a premium, however, please include _all_ of
  66. the files in copies of WML you distribute.  I would appreciate it if you
  67. would keep the ORDER.FRM file handy on your disk until you decide whether WML
  68. suits your needs.  Thank you!

  70.     The Registered Edition contains extra files which are to be used ONLY
  71. by registered users.  Please keep these files only for yourself:

  74. FONTS.EXE     Soft fonts for PCL laser printer, including a postal bar code
  75.               font (self-extracting archive)

  78. Installation Notes
  79. ──────────────────
  80.     If you received your copy of WML on disk it has an installation programme
  81. on it.  Using INSTALL is faster than installing/updating manually and it
  82. will not touch your AUTOEXEC or CONFIG.  Just put the floppy in a drive and
  83. type "d:INSTALL" where "d:" is the floppy drive letter (e.g., "A:").

  85.     When INSTALL is finished it will offer to unpack the included archives:

  87.      WMLDATA.EXE will automatically be extracted since it is required for
  88.       WML to run
  89.      WMLDOCS.EXE contains the documentation files (see below)
  90.      FONTS.EXE contains PCL soft fonts.  Soft fonts can reside in any
  91.       directory on any disk except for MailCode.SFL which *MUST* be in the
  92.       WML directory. If you put soft fonts in another directory, remember to
  93.       move MailCode.SFL back into your WML directory or you will not get any
  94.       bar codes on envelopes.
  95.      WFF*.EXE contains the latest version of What Floppy Format? which lets
  96.       you format floppies to any density from within any of my software
  97.       packages.  You must have FDFORMAT to use WFF.

  99.     If you have received WML from a bulletin board, it should be extracted
  100. into its own directory for the sake of organization.  Then just type WML
  101. and set your Preferences.

  104. Documentation Files
  105. ───────────────────
  106.     On disk, WML contains WMLDOCS.EXE, a self-extracting LHARC archive
  107. (LHARC is (c) 1991 by Haruyasu Yoshizaki).  I am using LHARC to keep WML on
  108. a 360k floppy without sacrifices.  WMLDOCS contains two files: WML.TXT and
  109. WML.WP. To extract the documentation just type "WMLDOCS."
  110.  
  111.     If you have WordPerfect 5, just load WML.WP.  Instructions to reformat
  112. and print are in a comment at the top of the file.  If you don't have
  113. WordPerfect or a way to convert the WML.WP file to your word processor, then
  114. just "TYPE WML.TXT > PRN" at the DOS prompt to print WML.TXT, which is an
  115. ASCII file generated from WordPerfect for a "standard printer."

  118. Using WML with EXE compressors
  119. ──────────────────────────────
  120.     WML is compressed with LZEXE by Fabrice Bellard, a public domain EXE
  121. compressor (merci, Fabrice!).  This saves over 150k of disk space and causes
  122. a pause of only ½ to 2-seconds during initial loading on 386/20 and 386/40
  123. CPUs. A worthwhile trade-off, I think.

  126. Advantages of WML
  127. ─────────────────
  128.     I've done a fair amount of snooping around BBSs and so far I've found
  129. nothing quite like WML.  My good friend, beta tester, and sysop of the
  130. Researcher's BBS in California, Skip Taylor, tells me that WML beats out
  131. the commercial products My Mailing List and FastPack Mail in almost all
  132. areas.  And FastPack Mail is a $150 package!!  That made me feel good...

  134. 1. WML manages and prints lists and has lots of features in both areas
  135.  
  136. 2. WML handles TWO print devices ── a PCL laser printer for envelopes and
  137.    laser labels, AND a dot matrix printer for continuous labels of any type.
  138.    You don't have to buy two separate versions of the software such as with
  139.    Avery's commercial package.
  140.  
  141. 3. WML supports all label types.  If your label type is not listed in
  142.    the menu just modify a definition or create a new one.
  143.  
  144. 4. WML has integrated back-up/restore functions.  I've learned that an easy
  145.    way to back-up a computer makes all the difference in whether or not it is
  146.    done.
  147.  
  148. 5. WML can import and export lists to/from many environments, including
  149.    WordPerfect, Word, Ventura Publisher, and "generic" ASCII text.
  150.  
  151. 6. WML will print bar codes on envelopes automatically!  All you need is
  152.    MailCode.SFL in your WML directory.  This font is included with your
  153.    registration.
  154.  
  155. 7. WML is shareware.  Try it for 60 days and see whether you can live without
  156.    it. For just $25 you can have WML with soft fonts and the latest copy of
  157.    WFF. And that 7-second pause at start-up will go away!
