VGA Hi-Q - A game by John Remyn, Copyright 1992 Galifir Developments
If you like this game, you are strongly encouraged to register it. You will
receive the latest version of the game (which may be the same), along with a
number of other (unregistered) games by the authors, on diskette.
This game is shareware. You are encouraged to freely copy and distribute it,
provided that no fee is charged beyond normal media duplication and shipping
costs, and that no changes are made to the distribution archive contents.
For further information see the end of this file and the file ORDER.FRM.
---- Hardware Requirements ---------------------------------------------------
IBM compatible with 80286/V20/V30 or better processor
VGA compatible card, some SVGA modes also supported
200K of free conventional memory (more for SVGA 640x400/640x480)
DOS v2.1 or greater
Disclaimer:
This program is provided on an "as is" basis without warranty of
any kind. In no event will the authors be liable to you for any
damages.
---- Installing & Configuring ------------------------------------------------
Just put all files in the archive (or on the distribution diskette) in a
directory on hard or floppy disk, which you will probably already have done.
When you start the game by running hiq.exe, you are presented with the SVGA
card type you seem to have (this is not entirely reliable) and the current
resolution and SVGA card chipset; press c to change chipset and mode, q to
quit, any other key to run the game. The game runs best in standard VGA
320x200 256 color mode.
---- The Game ----------------------------------------------------------------
The game implements the classic game of Hi-Q or Solitaire, which features a
cross-shaped board with 33 peg holes in it. You may have seen it before
as a wooden or plastic set.
At the start of a game, the board is filled with 32 pegs and only the center
hole is empty. You must try to get rid of as many pegs as you can, ideally
leaving only one peg in the central hole at the end. A peg is removed if you
move an adjacent peg over it into an empty hole.
You select the peg that you want to move by pressing the Enter, Space or
Insert key after positioning the cursor over it with the cursor keys.
You cannot select a peg that you can't move. After selecting a peg, use
the cursor keys to indicate in which way it should be moved, and press
Enter, Space or Insert. If you don't give a direction, you will be able
to select another peg.
You can quit the game any time by pressing Escape.
--- Ordering Information -----------------------------------------------------
Send cash (bills) in a double envelope or in an envelope with some paper
(possibly the order form) wrapped around the bills. An international money
order will probably cost you a fee comparable to the registration amount. You
can also use American Express Travelers Checks. Please do not send coins or
other checks. Send the money along with the order form, or the information
asked in the order form if you don't have easy access to a printer, to the
address below. Please remember to add proper postage for delivery to Europe.
Mail usually takes a few days to reach Europe from North America. We will
respond within 3 weeks at least, but usually within a few days.
Comments, suggestions and bug reports are always welcome. For these,
if you have access to Electronic Mail, you can use the following Internet
