1. DESCRIPTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TriPlot is an MS-DOS shareware program that generates
HP-GL/2 instructions for plotting three-component data on a
ternary diagram. HP-GL/2 is the new standardized version of the
Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language. It is available, for example,
with HP's series of LaserJet III printers and DraftMaster
plotters.
The user can redirect the HP-GL/2 commands to a file for
printing/plotting at a later time or for importing into a
print-utility or drawing program. A data point can be
represented by one of eight possible symbols drawn, in the case
of a plotter, by one of eight possible pens. In addition, the
user has the option of toggling the legend on and off, drawing
the whole diagram or a corner of it only, displaying one of five
pre-defined grid systems or none, and overlaying a
program-supplied zonation scheme. Line segments and tie-lines
can also be plotted.
2. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY
TriPlot and its associated files are provided as is. There
are no warranties expressed or implied. The author assumes no
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The TriPlot package is distributed as a shareware product.
Accordingly, you are entitled to make and distribute as many
copies as you wish with the following provisos:
1) none of the files have been altered,
2) all the files are included,

5. INSTALLATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To install TriPlot, copy the distribution files to a working
diskette or to a subdirectory of your hard drive. Their purposes
are as follows:
o README.1ST is the current file.
o README.W51 is the WordPerfect 5.1 source file for the
README.1ST file.
o ORDER.DOC contains the order/registration form. Please
enclose it with your remittance.
o ORDER.W51 is the WordPerfect 5.1 source file for the
ORDER.DOC file.
o REPORT.DOC contains a form for reporting any bugs.
Moreover, it can be used to forward any comments or
suggestions.
o REPORT.W51 is the WordPerfect 5.1 source file for the
REPORT.DOC file.
o TRIPLOT.EXE is the executable file. It was created with
Microsoft(R)'s FORTRAN Version 5.0 compiler and its
emulator library: the program will use a numeric co-
processor if one is present.
o TRIPLOT.ZON contains the definitions of the line segments
that make up the two zonation schemes currently supported
by TriPlot. If you use other well-established zonation
schemes, send us the details and we'll incorporate them
into TriPlot. Note in passing that TriPlot will create
this file whenever it cannot locate it.
o TRIPLOT.DOC is the documentation file explaining how to
set up your data file and detailing the various plotting
options.
o TRIPLOT.W51 is the WordPerfect 5.1 source file for the
TRIPLOT.DOC file.
o TEMPLATE.DAT is a template for helping the user structure
the data file as required by TriPlot.
o TEST.DAT is one of the many test files that were used in
TriPlot's development. It's provided as an example data
file.
The .DOC files, along with the current file README.1ST, are
DOS text files formatted for an impact printer with continuous-
form paper. The .DAT files are pure DOS ASCII files. You can
print them by using the DOS COPY command as in the following
example:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
COPY README.1ST PRN
In addition, you can view these files on your screen by
redirecting their contents through the DOS MORE command, e.g.,
MORE < TEST.DAT
The .W51 files have been included in order to allow WordPerfect
5.1 users to reformat the documentation for their printers.
6. STARTING TRIPLOT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TriPlot is launched from the DOS prompt in one of two
possible ways:
TRIPLOT DataFileName OutputFileName
or
TRIPLOT DataFileName OutputDevicePort
Please refer to the documentation file TRIPLOT.DOC for an
explanation of the command line parameters.
7. BUGS, SUGGESTIONS, AND COMMENTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Further enhancements are dependent on your financial
support, suggestions, and even your gripes. If your usage calls
for new options or zonation schemes that are of general interest,
supply us with as many details as possible. Remember that
registered users are entitled to free technical support for any
problems they may encounter with TriPlot. The file REPORT.DOC
provides a form for reporting any bugs, comments, or suggestions.
Before reporting a bug, make sure that you've read the
documentation files carefully. Address all correspondence to:
