NOTE: You will notice references to Windows(TM) options in your:
*Jumbo Trakker(TM) Quick Start Card
*Jumbo Trakker Installation Guide (Chapters 1, 3-6)
*Jumbo Trakker User's Guide (Chapters 1-2)
The current version of Trakker Software (Version 2.56) does not support
the Windows options covered in the documentation. However, in the next release
of Trakker software, you will be able to run our tape software from Windows.
In addition, the next Trakker software release will have a new look. If
you send in your Jumbo Trakker Registration Card, we will send you a FREE COPY
of this exciting new software, (Colorado Backup), which adds the following
features:
*Windows launcher and scheduler
*Pull down menus
*Mouse support
*Powerful restore options
The rest of this README file contains instructions for using Jumbo
Trakker(TM) with a Xircom(TM) Model PPX-02 Parallel Port Multiplexor. The
Multiplexor splits one parallel port into two allowing you to plug two
devices, for example, Trakker and a printer, into one parallel port. In
this way you can plug in and unplug Trakker from your computer without
having to unplug your printer each time. You can purchase the Multiplexor
from your preferred computer dealer.
Installing the Hardware
1. Turn off your computer, monitor, and other peripherals.
2. Locate the parallel port connector on the back of your computer. (If
you do not use LPT1, see the section Configuration Options below.)
3. If you have a printer plugged into the parallel port, unplug it from
the computer.
4. Plug the Multiplexor into the computer's parallel port.
5. Plug Trakker into the Multiplexor's connector labeled "A".
6. Plug the printer into the Multiplexor's connector labeled "B".
7. Plug the Trakker power cord into Trakker and into a wall outlet.
8. Turn on your computer, monitor, and other peripherals.
Installing the Software
1. Run the installation program on the Trakker diskette.
2. Decide which version of the Multiplexor software you want to use:
- PPX.SYS is a loadable device driver that is installed from your
CONFIG.SYS file at boot time. Use PPX.SYS if you want to always
install the Multiplexor driver at boot time.
- PPX.COM is a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) program that can be
loaded from batch files such as AUTOEXEC.BAT. Use PPX.COM when you
want to load the Multiplexor driver from AUTOEXEC.BAT or after boot
time.
3. To install PPX.SYS:
a. Copy PPX.SYS from the Xircom PPX Configuration Diskette to the
desired directory on your hard disk.
b. Add the line "DEVICE=[path]\PPX.SYS NON" to your CONFIG.SYS file.
c. Reboot.
4. To install PPX.COM:
a. Copy PPX.COM from the Xircom PPX Configuration Diskette to the
desired directory on your hard disk.
b. If desired, add the line "[path]\PPX NON" to your AUTOEXEC.BAT or
simply type the line in at the DOS prompt.
The above procedure designates your printer to be LPT1 and Trakker to be
LPT2.
Configuration Options
The PPX.SYS or PPX.COM command line can have the following options:
PPX NON [LPT=x] [A=y] [B=z] [INT=A|B]
LPT=x Designates the physical port that the Multiplexor is plugged into.
You must include this option if you are NOT using LPT1. x can be
1, 2, or 3.
A=y Designates the logical port designator for Multiplexor connector A.
y can be 1, 2, or 3.
B=z Designates the logical port designator for Multiplexor connector B.
z can be 1, 2, or 3. z must be different from y.
INT=A|B Specifies the Multiplexor connector that Trakker is plugged into
(this is the connector that uses the interrupt). If you plug Trakker
into connector B instead of connector A, you must include the option
"INT=B".
Thank you for choosing Colorado Memory Systems and Jumbo Trakker. If you have
