DoorNet Information Package - March 3, 1992
===========================================
The premise behind DoorNet is to setup a network for the
distribution of door echos and related information that
pertains to doors. I belong to several different networks and
was thinking it would be great to have one network that would
focus on Doors instead of having to participate in several
different networks. This is an attempt to pull together for
the first time message base support from authors/developers
of Door Products. Many authors already have an Echo or two
but for the most part the distribution of those echos are
very limited ( to a single network or their own Door support).
With DoorNet interested authors/developers can
have their echos go worldwide.
In preliminary discussions (both voice and net-mail) with
several authors they have indicated interest in this project.
Permission to distribute echos have been received from most
authors that we have approached. Since this is brand new only
a limited number of authors have been contacted thus far to
see if there is interest to support our undertakings. In
addition to talking with the Authors/Developers several Door
Sysops have been contacted and thus far I'm pleased to report
a 100% favorable response when asked if they would carry the
conferences and participate. We are encouraged with the
initial reply and have decided that there are indeed a lot of
dedicated Sysops and Door authors who want to make this a
success so we are proceeding with the formation of DoorNet.
There are many general door echos (almost every network
has one) but the specific echos are limited to only a few
networks. What we seek to do is pull together the specific
echos and offer them to any sysop that wants to be a part of
this network. These echos for the most part will be hosted or
moderated by the door author/developer. Door Utilities will
also be covered in the echoes.
For Door Authors there will be Echos just for them where
they can relate with other authors on door development.
Several Authors have indicated that they would really like to
see some developers only conferences and DoorNet will offer
them. Additional areas will be added as needed by the
participants of DoorNet. We expect this to be a flexible net
that can adjust to the needs of the net members. Suggestions
for specific echos are most welcome.
A separate Zone number will be reserved for this
network. In addition to the echos that will be carried there
are plans to have a newsletter so articles will be encouraged.
Publication will be at least quarterly and then hopefully
become a monthly feature. A new feature that will be offered
is a master listing of Doors, Authors and distribution sites.
This listing will be published each month and should list
multiple distribution or file request sites. There are many
more projects that can be undertaken with your help and
suggestions.
If you are an Door Author or a Door Developer and would
like to participate please let us know. Likewise if you are a
Sysop that likes Doors and runs doors on your system and would
like to be a part of a new and exciting organization please
let us know. In addition to conferences we will also be
seeking various sites to act as regional and net distribution
sites, if you would like to volunteer for these jobs please
contact any of the following Sysops:
