  19.      I have experienced many unique features in TAG boards, and wanted to
  20. let sysop's who have justed started their own BBS, or Already established
  21. sysop know what is out there.  Many of these Ideas are not mine, and I
  22. will give the credit to the BBS I saw it on first (sorry to those who
  23. I might leave out.)  This file is not for the "Glory" of the idea, but
  24. more for the new Sysop's who don't yet know some of the Tricks you can
  25. utilize on your BBS.

  28. Shuttle Menu :
  29.  
  30.       Perhaps one of the best known features around is found on the
  31. Tag Beta Site Atlantis ][.  This Menu is comprised of commands similar
  32. to a main menu, but it only contains commands for the use of moving
  33. easily between menus, commands like (V)oting and (O)ther BBS list,
  34. are contained on a different Menu.  Some sysops wonder how it is
  35. possible to have ansi screens for menus, well it is rather simple.
  36. Here is a easy set of instructions :

  38. (1) Go into the Menu Editor
  39. (2) Modify the Menu you wish to have your custom ansi screen on.
  40. (3) There will be a option that says "help file name", select it
  41.     and input the file name in this form
  42.  
  43.            Example : say your complete ansi screen name is
  44.                       Help1.clr ( note : the 1 is the Help
  45.                                   level for the file to
  46.                                   be viewed.)
  47.  
  48.            Type Help, and that is all, TAG will scan for the
  49.            names and then print the *.clr or *.msg files for
  50.            your menus, but you will need help1.clr and help2.clr
  51.            help3.clr, and help4.clr.. so all the Help Levels
  52.            are coverd, just copy each file into a new one, and
  53.            then rename them accordingly.
  54. (4) Make you ansi if you haven't already , remeber using a
  55.     txt editing program you can take out large blank spots at
  56.     the bottom of your ansi's just backspace the carriage return
  57.     marker.

  60. Advanced Bulletin System :
  61.  
  62.      I have seen this feature on the Disk Box, it is simply just
  63. a menu, but with the before mentioned trick, it is turned into
  64. a bulletin section.  By making a *.clr or *.msg file and adding
  65. that for the "look" of you bulletin menu, you can run on-line
  66. door/games, or have other door running utilitys at the users
  67. finger tips.

  69. Use the "Guest User to your advantage" :
  70.  
  71.      I of several people that have been locked out or forgot their
  72. passwords at one time or another, well I was trying to figure out
  73. a way to fix that, so I came up with the Idea to use TAG's Guest
  74. user account as a communications portal from the user to the sysop.
  75. Now besides it being a way of people looking around my bbs, it
  76. is also a function for users to log on, send E-Mail to me about
  77. their loss of their password, and then I am notified, and can handle
  78. the sitation.  I personnally call the person voice and "Re-validate"
  79. them and make sure they are who they say they are.  Of course their
  80. is still ways for a user never to get back on becuase of these
  81. Password Thiefs, but it is better than the user never calling back.
  82. This Idea is On TRAN-Net BBS (the BBS in the Title.)  Remember
  83. you can limit the use of the Guest User account simply by editing
  84. the set user account.

  86. Log Off Menu :

  88.      I first saw this Feature on the Black Hole (TAG Alpha Site),
  89. when the (G)oodbye command was activated, you were tooken to a menu.
  90. this menu, contained the options of Sending mail to the sysop, or
  91. sending mail to one of the co-sysops, aborting back to the main
  92. menu, or logging off.  Of course the (/G) function still logs you
  93. off instantly.  and with the Before mentioned ansi menu trick you
  94. can make your log off menus colorfull.

  96. Private Side :

  98.      I have heard that this utility was utilitized at Liberty BBS, and
  99. I recently have put it up on my BBS, it is seperate Menus that usually
  100. include a new main menu, 2nd file section and/or 3rd message base.
  101. (That is the way I set it up, however you can do whatever you want).
  102. I have a "private Side" set up on my bbs for users who wish to "Pay"
  103. so much a month.  I have a message base, file section, and Private
  104. side main menu.  This provides the user with "Hide a way" or second
  105. BBS area and has proven to be succesfull at my BBS.  Refer to the
  106. TAG Menu Documenation on how to do this feature.

  109. New Scan Features :
  110.  
  111.      Shortly after releasing the first version of this file, I called
  112. Muffies and discovered a unusual feature that I found to be quite
  113. mentionable.  Some BBSs force you to new scan the messages in the
  114. message base, or the new files in the file section, when you press the
  115. (M)essage Base, or (F)ile Section commands, but on Muffies you were
  116. given the option of the regular methods(without newscan) or the
  117. method of newscanning.. (/M)essage base, this command new scanned
  118. the messages, and (/F)ile Section scanned the new Files, this is
  119. great for the best of both worlds.

  121. Tagmail or Message Base? :
  122.  
  123.      For those who don't know what Tagmail does, it is simply the
  124. door that allows netmail/echomail support for TAG.  It is published
  125. by Mike Vanderveer.  Some BBSs who do support Tagmail can stick a
  126. menu in between the Main Menu, and the message base, and make 2
  127. commands, one (M)essage base.. for continuing to the Message base
  128. or (T)agmail.. going directly to Tagmail, and then with the
  129. before mentioned trick make a ansi or ascii file that requests
  130. if the user wants local messages or netmail messages.

  132. Bulletin Sub-Menu :

  134.      This is a very minor Idea, but Some people like to do this
  135. for organization.  In the bulletin section you can make what
  136. is called a sub-bulletin.  from the main bulletin screen
  137. for example :

  139.           01 - horst man list
  140.           02 - User bulletins sub-bulletin
  141.           03 - TW top scores
  142.  
  143. when 02 is depressed another *.msg screeen comes up.  for example:
  144.  
  145.           U1 - How to gain validated access
  146.           U2 - Rules on being a good user
  147.           U3 - Listing of users on this BBS
  148.  
  149. now by depressing u1 - u3 you can view the bulletins, this feature
  150. provides the sysop with a little more room on your main bulletin
  151. screen file.  The same feature can be done with the Questionaire
  152. system.

  154. Sysop Menu :

  156.      Before the "Floating Sysop menu" of Tag 2.5c came out I made
  157. a sysop menu, and placed all the commands there, this menu still
  158. has a small advantage over the floating sysop's menu, becuase it
  159. is still configurable, I have placed many of my own commands for
  160. other utilitys in it, and still use it, not for the editors but
  161. it is a good place to store those odd sysopial commands.

  163. File Wish List :

  165.      Some sysop's like some of the latest pd software out there
  166. but can't always get what software they want across to their
  167. users, so you can make a command that has a /W for wish list,
  168. and make a txt file that is read that lists the files you want
  169. uploaded.
