FIX: @FILENAME for keyword(s) "Easy Search" Feature.
FIX: FILE ATTACH/UPLOAD logic was deleting the file
ENH: Skip Signature for held mail just like tag line.
NEW: New hotkey ALT P was added.
This hot key will pop up the list PICKLIST.LIS. This file contains
names of all the pick list files used by Xpress. When you select a
file from the list, Xpress will edit the picklist file using the
internal editor or the defined picklist editor.
FIX: Optional quoter, mail process, file cabinet was not putting the date
of the message.
FIX: The /E3=xx switch was not taking the proper xx value.
FIX: For SFI, the menu was still talking even if shut off.
ENH: Renamed /HAN switch to /CHINese
FIX: Delete BIF file when deleting PKT/REP files.
FIX: Fixed Hotkey for rename option in XPLANG.TXT
FIX: If the log file was defined wrong, the reader would not start up. The
user had to delete the XPREAD.CFG file. XPREAD will now tell the
user to fix the file name, but continue to run without a log file.
ENH: IBM Character option remote configuration was added to the Reader.
NEW: Added /NH switch to MAILPROC items. If a MAILPROC.LIS item has
a /NH as a suffix to a program, then Xpress will not add the
header to the EMAIL.TXT file. This is good for applications who
do not expect the top header information. ie, DeskTop Publisher
like RubiCon
FIX: Fixed XOL environment string. It was not working (used right).
Please note the documentation describes the XOL wrong. XOL, if used,
must be a fully declared pathname to the Xpread overlay file. ie,
SET XOL=Z:\RAM\XPREAD.OVR
If you rename the EXE (XPREAD.EXE to SX.EXE) make sure you also
rename the OVR file as well, or use the XOL environment string.
NOTE: Since the XPREAD.EXE is a compressed with PKLITE, the OVR
and EXE cannot be combined.
Here is an example on how to use this if you have a ram drive:
In your autoexec, add this: (assume Z: is your ram drive)
copy c:\xpress\xpread.ovr z:\
Set XOL=Z:\XPREAD.OVR
ENH: Made some changes to the language file:
The following language strings were changed to reflect the true error
in opening up a OPX mail packet. They now say:
st_018 ERROR 18: ARCHIVER NOT FOUND ON PATH. CHECK ARCHIVER CONFIGURATION.
st_019 ERROR 19: UNKNOWN COMPRESSION FORMAT FOR FILE %s
st_029 ERROR 29: BRDINFO.DAT WAS NOT FOUND IN PACKET. CHECK MAIL PACKET.
These seem to be the top three conditions when a new user starts Xpress.
The file EXPLAIN.TXT is meant to explain to the user the reasons and
how to remedy the situation.
NEW: Extended XPTEXT language to 250 possible statements
ENH: If a non-existent IMPORTED file is used, SX will give the user
the opportunity to CREATE the imported file.
ENH: Enhanced the language file.
NEW: CHECK FOR MEMORY BEFORE STARTUP. Memory Checks are perform at keys
points in the system. Xpress is really picky now. If it doesn't
have atleast 20K to work with at various (after the packet is
open), not much will be done. No one should be running Xpress at
about 20k when reading mail because, not much more can be done.
NEW: Better WORK directory checking and error reporting especially
when the -O switch is used.
NEW: Error handler was put back in to show in a BIG RED BOX the critical
error that has occured. Xpress will switch back to the start
directory but will NOT attempt to cleanup the work directory unlike
the OLD 2.28 reader. In 3.00 and 3.01, the error handler was disabled.
FIX: Fixed mite that was in 3.01 where the FASTQUIT option was not
initialized. It didn't cause any problem but it defaulted to FALSE
and I wanted it to default to YES the first time the user used the
3.01 reader or better.
ENH: Enhanced the internal logic on how Xpress searches for files. The new
logic allows for multiple users to share or separate files. See file
SYSFILES.DOC
NEW: Added new mail sort methods.
Sort By Number, previously, this was the default sort.
Sort By Thread, previously, this was the sort when SORT was ON.
Sort By To Whom
Sort By From Whom
Sort By Date
Sorts will always be in ascending order, and sorting by area
number is inherent to all sorts (message by areas will always
be grouped together).
FIX: Fixed bug in FORMS Processor where the AREA NUMBER was not used
correctly for extended areas. This should fix the SXORDER.FRM
for sysops who have a netmail area after area #9.
ENH: The signature system was slightly changed and enhanced.
First, a cosmetic change. The reader will now make sure an extra
blank line is added after the selected signature (not if imported).
This is make sure a blank line after a signature and the end of a
message with or without a tagline.
Second, apparently the HELP for the "SIGNATURE or @FILENAME"
configuration option was wrong. The @FILENAME option says this will
insert a signature file. WRONG! A @FILENAME will pop up a LIST of
signatures. Using the @ character will ALWAYS pop up a list in Silver
Xpress. Within the pop up signature list, if a selected signature was
a existing file, then the file would be inserted into the message.
Nothing has change except in how to IMPORT a signature file.
If a simple signature is used, then Xpress will simply use the
signature and append it to the message.
If the a @filename is provided, then a LIST will pop up just like
before.
MULTI-LINE SIGNATURES "IMPORTING SIGNATURE FILES":
You now have the ability to provide multi-line signatures two ways.
A multi-line signature is something that looks like this:
Regards,
Tim
You can do this two ways:
1) use \n, for example:
Regards,\nTim
The \n string will be substituted with a carriage return.
If you use this method, you should probably also add a \n at
the end of the signature as well.
2) You can now add the word FILE before the file name to import
a signature file. For example:
SIGNATURE or @FILENAME : FILE normal.sig
Xpress will check for the word FILE and add the signature
file directly WITHOUT popping up a LIST.
If a pop list is used, SIGN.LIS, then add the FILE keyword if
one of your signature selections is a signature file. See the
new SIGN.LIS file provided with this version of the reader.
NOTE: The \n feature and FILE keyword is only for SIGNATURES. Not
taglines. I am not ready to yield to a multiple tagline feature.
FIX: Fixed bug in CASFAX print option. If the FAX storage directory was
not defined, then the fax file was not found when the user hit F10
to save and send the fax. If the fax storage directory is not
define, Xpress will store the temporary fax in the startup Xpress
directory. Also fixed a small bug where the same was not date for
sending the fax.
NEW: New SUBJECT ListBox can be display at the Message List by hitting
the S key.
NEW: New VGA 43/50 line mode field for defining the bottom row of the
internal editor screen. This allows you to define a 25 line mode
and 50 line mode editor window size.
FIX: Fixed bug where FILING a newly created mail was not putting the
header information at the top of the filed message.
FIX: Fixed EGA/VGA 43/50 line mode bug where switching between the
two was not setting the window dimensions on some screen clears.
NEW: New screen saver option to hide status line during screen saver
events.
ENH: A vastly enhanced Forms Processor in the reader. See XPFORMS.DOC
for full details on the Silver Xpress Forms Systems.
Summary:
- Choice List system
- Help File System
- Improved field substition in prolog files
- Valid Key fields
- Fixed bug where not creating proper area extension for
fido files
- Ability to process form mail (see DOT XFORM command)
- improved documentation
NEW: E-FORMS "Electronic mail Forms".
Added a DOT command.
.XFORM [string]
The dot XFORM command will take the entire message and create a form
file called EMAIL.FRM (in the work directory) and execute it using
the built-in form processor in Silver Xpress.
The XFORM command will bring up a QUESTION:
FORM MAIL: DO YOU WISH TO PROCESS THIS FORM?
The question can be changed by using the [string] option in the
XFORM dot command.
Why do we need this?
This gives Xpress a powerful way to automatically to perform or
process data entry forms as a REPLY to a message. This could
be questionaires, order entry or what have you.
Also, a user can trigger the forms processor by using the ALT-F
key on the message. This is for situations where someone does
not to use the XFORM dot command and wants the user to trigger
it manually.
FIX: More of a note. Pick List files which point to other files or
require a EXTRACTION of the first work from the line should have the
%EXTRACT command. Some list files did not have the %EXTRACT command.
This cause some confusion in finding list file such as in the IMPORT
and SIGNATURE system.
FIX: Some lower case dot commands was not working. (old bug fixed).
FIX: Fixed color bug with the PICK LIST ICONS.
ENH: Made a slight change to the reader PID kludge line.
NEW: Multi Area Cross Posting of mail is now available.
To cross post mail in multiple areas, go to the CREATE MAIL PICK
LIST and hit the space bar to select the mail areas. Then whenever
you SAVE YOUR MESSAGE, the reader will prompt for each area a
confirmation to post the message in the area. You have to go back
an clear the selected areas or the reader will prompt you every time
you create or reply to mail.
NEW: PMODE: Added Option to use internal Zip or not in Misc Options.
FIX: Fixed a random QWK mail search problem.
ENH: RMODE: Optimized the speed of the OVERLAY system by playing with
overlay manager's overlay probation and buffer system.
DOC: REAL MODE SILVER XPRESS ONLY:
Using Expanded Memory with Silver Xpress
----------------------------------------
If available, Silver Xpress will use expanded memory for the
following activities:
o Overlays
o Exec swapping
If expanded memory is found on your hardware, the overlay file
XPREAD.OVR will be loaded into expanded memory. The current size of
XPREAD.OVR is approximately 260K so that amount is requested for
expanded memory.
Exec Swapping is the process of Silver Xpress removing itself from
memory prior to calling 3rd party programs such as the archivers and
the external editor. Exec Swapping leaves about 6K behind thus
freeing up conventional memory to process the 3rd party program.
Xpress will swap to disk normally, however if enough expanded memory
is found, Xpress will swap to expanded memory.
By using expanded memory, you will dramatically speed up Silver Xpress
real mode operations.
Note: If you have a RAM DISK in expanded memory, you may use instead
the XOL environment string to define the location of the XPREAD.OVR
file, and use the XSFP to define the DIRECTION LOCATION of the
Xpress swap file.
Setting up Expanded Memory.
---------------------------
MS DOS 5.0 on a 386 system
--------------------------
Add the command to your config.sys after the HIMEM.SYS command:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.SYS 1024 ram
This command will use 1 meg of your EXTENDED MEMORY on your 386
to simulate EXPANDED MEMORY.
ENH: Removed registration requirements except the traditional item like
entering more than 10 messages after 100 usages. I think this is
the remaining registered only feature. Of course, there is the
registration delay.
ENH: Updated the ABOUT ME window box
DOC: New Faster Speeds!
By recompiling the Silver Xpress under the new Borland Pascal
7.0 compiler, string manipulation speed was increased by 30%
and text file I/O by 30% as well.
The overlay system was re-examined and optimized using increased
buffers.
NEW: New option (in misc options) to use place the READER SCROLL BAR
at the top or bottom of the initial screen page. This was always
available but only using the speech friendly interface logic.
Non-SFI users can now change the option.
FIX: Importing files using the Message Header window will now copy
the file to a temp file. This prevents editing the original
file.
FIX: When using alias names during view mail mode, the reader displayed
the users real name.
FIX: Fixed a qwk bug. Normally, qwk doors are not suppose to send ndx
index files for area messages if there are no messages for that
particular area. This was checked for but I had an extra read
startment in there and that caused an error 100 if the ndx file was
empty. Fixed.
NEW: RMODE: Added capability for (or not use) user defined DOS prompt for
SHELLS. Show Old PCs had prompts with manipulating the PSP for
environment strings. NOTE: Changing the dos prompt in a shell to
dos is not available in protected mode.
FIX: Removed END OF MESSAGE string from forwarded mail.
NEW: Add option to define the Forwarding Message that is appended to
message when "adding addition comments". See XPLANG.TXT string
#210.
FIX: Fixed situation when there is only 1 item in the PICKLIST.LIS
FIX: Corrected ESCAPE for SAVE MENU when user defines an alternative
initial menu position other than 1.
ENH: Moved the "No Mail Messages" to the language file.
ENH: Moved the Urgent/Keyword messages to the language file.
FIX: Cosmetic fix to the editor options where the RIGHT/LEFT margins
was reversed.
NEW: Reader can now handle displaying 50 lines in Binary Save Files.
NEW: Remove Custom Color Option from Reader. New Program SXCOLOR.EXE is
now available. This is a visual color customization program.
ENH: Made all WINDOW shadow options the same or define by that defined
for the MENU windows.
FIX: Renamed XPLANG.TXT to XPLANG.DEF to avoid situation when a user is
upgrading his 3.01 reader to 3.02 (protected mode) but runs instead
the 3.01 reader. An error of Duplicate String at #201 occurred. A
fixed was made to the 3.02 language input routine to make sure this
doesn't happen again with future upgrades of the reader. Thanks
Larry McDermott.
FIX: Fixed Mouse usage for MORE YES/NO question for long bulletins.
FIX: Fixed Mouse Usage for Screen Saver.
NEW: New Mouse Options in Video/Sound Configuration.
ENH: Added a Message saying no new files or bulletins are available.
NEW: New Menu option to reset Mail as being unread.
ENH: Added Header to generic pick list (message list when reading)
FIX: Fixed Menu Dynamic Command processor. If no mail is present,
the *READ and *NEW was still being run.
NEW: New Search Mail option to find mail already read.
ENH: Removed BOOKMARKER option and made it permanent. It should always
be on because of the new Conference Pick List.
ENH: Now Senses for Key Pad Enter Key
FIX: Duplicate printout of message numbers and areas during Shredding.
