  17. Welcome to the sixth edition of the Sound Site Newsletter.  In this
  18. issue the IBM sound board descriptions continue.  In last months
  19. edition we began with the specifications for the Adlib Gold and the
  20. MediaVision Pro Audio Spectrum cards.  In this issue the Sound Blaster
  21. Pro and the Roland card are discussed.
  22.  
  23. Due to the HUGE overhead of managing the mailing list I ask that only
  24. those who have no alternative but receiving by e-mail add to the mailing
  25. list.  This newsletter is also available on Simtel20 (and via Simtel's
  26. mail server) and Garbo as well as the bulletin boards listed on the last

  72. First there was REmac, then there was Playmac and now....
  73.  
  74. B & J Corporation and Playmac Technologies proudly introduce the Playbwc
  75. sound editing package.
  76.  
  77. The Playbwc package is the follow up to the successful Playmac package
  78. but now by using the new technology of Kim Heino and Arttu Kontkanen's
  79. new program B's Wave Centre (BWC)... a new generation has dawned.
  80. Below is an excerpt from the BWC manual.
  81.  
  82.      BWC is the best sample editor program available for IBM PC and
  83.      compatibles. Only requirements are EGA or EGA-Mono display
  84.      adaptor and 256kB of memory. BWC supports JDAC (see JDAC.DOC),
  85.      Sound Blaster card and the PC internal speaker.
  86.  
  87.      The best result is obtained by a JDAC connected to your stereo
  88.      set. You can easily make the JDAC with the instructions included
  89.      in this package. It is a simple 8 bit D/A-converter to be
  90.      connected to your parallel port. Also a product named Covox
  91.      Speech Thing seems to be compatible with the JDAC. It is
  92.      possible to use it with BWC.
  93.  
  94.      Sound Blaster's I/O address and IRQ number can be configured
  95.      with CFGBWC. The default settings are IRQ 7 and I/O address
  96.      0220h (SB 1.5). The internal speaker routine plays the samples
  97.      only with 6 bits. It is IBM's fault! Another internal speaker
  98.      playing routines, like RealSound, plays the samples just like we
  99.      do. But we convert the 8 bit data to 6 bit in real-time to get
  100.      the best result. Note that you can easily hang your computer by
  101.      playing samples with too high digirates.
  102.  
  103.      BWC supports MSMOUSE-compatible mouse. Remember to load your
  104.      driver before starting BWC.
  105.  
  106.      BWC identifies automatically following sample formats: RAW, IFF,
  107.      RealSound (Steve), Sound Blaster's (Voxkit) format, Akai
  108.      Professional Sampling Keyboard (see part 4 of this document) and
  109.      of course our own format.
  110.  
  111. So now the familiar power of Playmac is teamed up with BWC to form a
  112. complete sound package.  The package can be obtained from ROGUE on
  113. the: rogue/players or sound/players directory as playbwc.zip.

  126. Rogue is now moving to saffron.inset.com, an Amiga 3000UX, located
  127. just outside Boston, MA.  You can get everything in the archive
  128. with anonymous ftp only at the moment.  Saffron normally runs a
  129. mail archive server which will send index lists and all files from
  130. the archive.  Unfortunately, due to recent reorganization, the
  131. server isn't there at the moment, although it will be back soon.
  132. Details of how to use it will appear in a later Newsletter.  Saffron
  133. also has a small archive of generally useful MSDOS stuff, and also
  134. X-Windows sources.  Much of this is not there at the moment, either,
  135. although it will all be put back over the next few weeks.

  137. Saffron is connected to the rest of the world over a 9600 bps SLIP
  138. line.  You may find that some transfers are a bit slow.  Sorry.
  139. That's life.  Don't complain, just find something enjoyable to do
  140. while you wait for your files.  If you do need to talk to someone
  141. here, send mail to me (jr@inset.com) rather than root or postmaster.

  145. and several other MSDOS applications.  At the moment we are not accepting
  146. GIFS.  It is being run by the same people who brought you Rogue

  180. Concept Digital is looking for programs/programmers for an upcoming hardware
  181. project. The goal is to create a set of 16 bit digital audio editors (capable
  182. of editing files larger than RAM memory) that provide nearly equivalent
  183. functionality between multiple host systems: i.e. Amiga, Mac, PC, etc. These
  184. editors, when available, will be bundled with the hardware version for the

  319. audio data for a 100 meg drive. Time availability will depend on system
  320. memory requirements, disk fragmentation, and timing data requirements.
