This rain check entitles the registered user to a copy of the full
SuperK HST documentation when it becomes available. In the
interim, please refer to the documentation and sample batch files
supplied in the old SK&JSUPP.ZIP file.
SuperK HST is "Multitasking Aware" in that it will share the CPU
time slices with other partitions if you are operating in a
DesqView, TaskView, OmniView or TopView environment. Since the
only time SuperK HST writes directly to the screen buffer is upon
initial startup, screen writes in a multitasking environment will
not be a problem (other than upon initial startup, of course). If
initial screen writes are a problem, set the Direct Screen Writes
toggle to No within the SKINST Config/Misc section.
Although most of the commands are the same, only the command line
format has changed... most importantly, the use of the environment
SET SUPERK= handling. Since SuperK HST now allows for all command
line parameters to be set internally, it is advised to use the
SKINST Configure SuperK HST option rather than the DOS SET
command.
The new protocols (Three-D, 4■BY■4 and SixPack) and their MNP
counterparts (ThreeD-G, 4■BY■4-G and SixPack-G) are all variants
of Super8K and Super8K-G respectively. Although their operation is
identical, the packet sizes are 3k, 4k and 6k respectively.
The 1K Xmodem-G protocol is identical to Qmodem's 1K Xmodem-G in
Single file mode only. SuperK HST enhances the Qmodem 1K Xmodem-G
in that it also allows a full batch mode of the MNP variant!
HOWEVER, typical of all of the SurerK Batch Modes, BOTH sides MUST
be using SuperK HST. You cannot use a batch mode while the other
side is using a single file mode of the same protocol.
A default protocol of None (N), signals SuperK HST to display the
internal protocol menu and permit the per execution selection of a
protocol.
The only other feature that should be dealt with is the terminal
mode. SuperK HST supports full autostart mode when "talking" with
another copy of SuperK HST. When SuperK HST receives the
auto-start trigger from the sending system, your SuperK HST will
automatically switch protocols (if required) to match the sending
system. This completely eliminates the problem of dealing with
all of the different protocols and their variances.
Starting with version 1.04, the terminal mode now supports the
same Cut and Paste filename buffers that have been supported in
K9X for over 3 years now! The buffers number and operation is
identical to that within K9X. Please note that, in an effort to
keep memory requirements down, only the download buffers are
currently implemented.
Until the new Canine Express HST version is released (or if you
are attempting to use SuperK HST with an inferior comm package),
the easiest way to link SuperK HST to your present comm program is
to use SuperK HST in terminal mode, exiting your comm program upon
logon and entering SuperK HST terminal mode for the duration of
your session. Additionally, entering SuperK HST terminal mode
affords full access to the auto-start feature.
With SuperK HST fully configured, the SuperK HST terminal mode
command line is simply:
SKHST T
If you wish to set other SuperK HST parameters on the command line
simply use the command line model within SKINST... For instance:
SKHST P1 S38400 T
will start SuperK HST terminal mode on comm1 at 38400bps
SKHST P1 S38400 T-LC
will start SuperK HST terminal mode on comm1 at 38400bps with port
locked and clear to send checking enabled.
SKHST P1 S38400 TS-BLC
will start SuperK HST terminal mode on comm1 at 38400bps with port
locked, clear to send checking enabled and a protocol of Super8K
in batch mode.
My apologies for not having formal documentation available... but
I felt it was more important to get the new HST version out to you
than to hold up shipment until docs were available (besides, many
HST users are "convertees" from the old SuperK and are familiar
with the SuperK operation)! If you run into any problems, please
take a minute or two to logon to Underdog's MiniNet and let me
help. My "doors" are always open to registered Crater Rim
Software users and I welcome any and all input.
Thankyou for your support of my work... Keep the Faith.
