This is the setup I've come up with to start Windows in a mode that will
allow PKZIP version 2.04c to run reliably in a DOS shell.
I disable all extended features, so it's running the same way good old
PKZ 1.1 runs, but with the compatibity for zips from 1.1 thru 2.0.
It's fairly straight-forward and nothing you couldn't get from spending
some time with the manuals, but hey, I already did. Copy PKZIP.CFG to
your \DOS directory and you're all set.
PKSET will set max compatibility mode. PKRESET will unset the two enviro
variables that turn off the extended features. Works fine from DOS too.
It appears that calling WIN from the batch GO_WIN doesn't add any overhead.
I'd love to hear from you via Exec PC email (or Compuserv 70743,2623). Oh,
and I guess this might be too late... my preliminary tests of the latest
version, PKZ204E, seem to indicate Phil and the gang got the problems
solved. I'll wait for you people to blow up YOUR system finding out, haha.
Enjoy!
