History of QWKTXT
-----------------
October 26, 1990 - First official release of QWK2TXT. Released as
shareware. (version 1.0)
October 31, 1990 - 80286-based version released for Bob Walthers.
(version 1.0)
November 28, 1990 - It was found that version 1.0 could not handle more
than 255 conferences (numbered 0 - 254). Added code
to handle up to 1000 conferences (numbered 0 - 999).
(version 1.1 - internal version - not released)
December 3, 1990 - Code was slow so speeded it up a bit by optimizing
some sections of code. Added information regarding
the packet's origin and such. Switched to the
Microsoft C 6.00A compiler due to it's excellent
optimization. (version 1.20 - not released)
December 7, 1990 - With the release of the Qmail door (4.00ß), a logic
error was discovered in the program. That was fixed
during an extended session with Microsoft's CodeView
debugger. (version 1.30 - not released)
December 10, 1990 - Changed an array structure which was in error. Placed
extra packet information in MESSAGES.TXT. (i.e. BBS
name, location, phone number, etc.) (version 1.90 -
not released)
December 14, 1990 - Reformatted some of the strings. Added a flag which
determines if a message is private or public. Added
that information to the MESSAGES.TXT file.
Official release of version 2.0.
February 10, 1991 - Official Public Domain Release version 3.0.
October 15, 1991 - Added automatic decompression of .QWK files.
Requires PKUNZIP.EXE to be located in the PATH.
October 26, 1991 - Added automatic detection of 4DOS so as to use
the 4DOS del /qy *.* bit. (to clean the temporary
subdirectory)
October 27, 1991 - Second PD release. Version 4.00.
March 1, 1992 - Removed all references to 4DOS. Wrote a function to
delete work files that should be compatible with DOS
3.3 *and* DOS 5.0. Thanks to Mike Strock for
his comments relating to DOS 5.0.
March 23, 1992 - Increased array size to handle more conferences.
We're pushing the envelope on maximum number of
conferences here. Even with Microsoft C, the
program won't handle more than 6,550 conferences.
Again, thanks to Mike Strock for suggesting a higher
maximum.
March 28, 1992 - Third PD release. Version 4.10.
May 15, 1992 - Changed what the user sees while waiting for the
program to do its thing. Version 4.20. Not released.
May 26, 1992 - Experimented with an assembly language module to
convert the MSBIN floats to IEEE (in NDX files). It
was actually *slower* than the standard C version in
use before. Version 4.3. Not released.
June 18, 1992 - Added a subdirectory structure to the release ZIP
which contains a complete QWK spec. Thanks to
Patrick Lee for providing this one. Version 4.40.
Not released.
July 15, 1992 - Added automatic archive-method detection. Now can
handle ARC, ARJ, LHA, LHARC, ZIP and ZOO-created QWK
files. PAK wasn't included because it is difficult
to determine any difference between it and the ARC
format. Version 4.45. Not released due to impending
release of Version 4.50.
July 22, 1992 Fourth PD release. Version 4.50. Made one change in
the automated archive handling code. Seems someone
didn't like using PKUNZIP. So, changed the code to
handle PKUNZIP or UNZIP for ZIP files.
