Overview of the View types:
==========================
Hviews is a Multiple Document Interface (MDI) application were the
documents are one of four view types. Namely, the file view, the
file view with icons indicating documents types in the current
directory, the icon group view (Like a Program manager group), and
the search view used to display the search results. All these window
types are equal in terms of windows that may be minimized and/or
maximized, and arranged with the other windows on the Hviews
workspace.
The Icon view displays a collection of application or document icons
similar to the Program Manager. At the top of the Icon view window is
displayed information about the selected (i.e. icon with box around
it.) icon. There are three lines of information displayed about the
icon. That of the icon title, the command line that will be executed
if the icon is started (i.e. double clicking on the icon with the
mouse), and the working directory that Hviews will change to on
application startup.
There are three buttons at the top left of the icon view. The top two
buttons determined if the application will start minimized (left
button depressed), as a normal window (both buttons up), or as a
maximized (right button depressed) window. The larger button under the
two buttons, if depressed, will cause Hviews to minimize itself on
application startup.
The File view consists of from four to six sub windows within the view
window. The four windows that are always present are the drive
selection window along the top of the window. The action push buttons
along the left side of the window. The status window along the bottom.
The remaining space within the view window contains the file details
and/or the directory tree view. The directory tree window is always to
the left of the file detail window. Finally, a sixth window, that of
the locate bar, is optionally present between the drive window and the
file details window.
The File view with the Icons by Dir menu item checked adds a seventh
window between the locator bar window and the file details window. It
displays the icons of applications that have document files within the
selected directory.
The File view is similar to the File Manager. The current sort mode is
determine by which one of the first four commands in the VIEW menu is
checked (i.e. By Name, By Type, By Date, or By Size).
If the Icons by Dir menu item is checked in the View menu then the
file detail window will initially list only sub directories. In
addition, if there are any application document files in the current
directory the icon corresponding to the application will be displayed.
Each application icon displayed will be labeled with a file type. Note
that a given application icon may have more than one file type
associated with it (i.e. Word for Windows has the following file
types: DOC, DOT, and RTF)
The application icons are displayed across the first row. A
single-click on the application icon will display the document files
associated with the file type.
A double-click on a document file entry will start the application
with the selected document file.
A double-click on the application icon will start the application.
