This is the special BBS Shareware Distribution Package. Disregard any
reference to the INSTALL program. That is used on our disk based
distribution packages to create a directory and copy the files.
There are two shareware versions of the GRAB Plus and WinGRAB system.
Because of the size of the files we have split the DOS version and the
Windows version into three ZIP files. GRABDOC.ZIP is the manual and all of
the necessary support files for both the Windows and DOS versions. GRAB.ZIP
is the DOS version program files and WINGRAB.ZIP is the Windows version. If
you have the DOS version, disregard any references to the Windows programs
and if you have the Windows version disregard any references to the DOS
programs. The manual is in the file GRAB.DOC and covers both versions.
When you register the full package for $49.95 you will receive both the
DOS and the Windows versions. See the GRAB.DOC file for registration
information.

Changes to manual: The face of WinGRAB has changed. It now looks more
like an envelope. The captions "Return address" and "Addressee" are no
longer displayed. The screen displays an "envelope". The "Press to print"
button in the Windows version of the program has been replaced by a
"Postage Stamp". A click of the mouse on the postage stamp will print
the envelope.
A user may change the "face" of the stamp that is the "print button". This
option is under the Configure menu and there are three selections available.
The "new stamp" will be used after closing the WinGRAB application and
restarting it. (I'd like to thank Jack Keller, an old GRAB user, for his
bit map graphics that created two of the stamps.)
The comment line as well as the state of the "Print comment line" may now
be saved as your default as well as into style sheets. This is useful if
you want the comment line to print when calling WinGRAB from your word
processor.
You can force upper case printing of the addressee to comply with the
desires of the US Post Office now. This feature can be set up in the
program configuration.
You can now change the colors for the screens in WinGRAB and WinGDB. See
the on-line help for details of the menu selections for this feature.
WinGRAB Special Windows User Package
****************************************************************************
* BONUS FOR WINDOWS USERS *
****************************************************************************
* *
* We have included a bonus program in this package. WinGDB is the Windows *
* version of GRABDB and LaserLabel. This is a powerful database for all *
* of your correspondense needs. The instructions are in the file called *
* WINGDB.DOC and may be printed by using the DOS copy command: *
* *
* COPY WINGDB.DOC PRN: <press enter> *

Following is information on some macros for attaching WinGRAB and WinGDB to
your Windows word processor. For speed, after using WinGRAB or WinGDB, you
can use each programs shortcut key Alt+M to minimize the application and
return control to your word processor. This will effectivly reduce the load
time of the programs when the macro calls them for the next use. The only
time that you might not want to minimize WinGRAB is if you use the "Quick
Print" feature as it must be started from a closed application. If you want
to use this feature, use the shortcut keys Alt+X to close WinGRAB and return
control to your word processor.
Word for Windows users:
WINWIN10.DOC is a macro for Microsoft Word for Windows. It will add WinGRAB
to your utilities pulldown of WinWord.
WINWGDB.DOC is a macro for Microsoft Word for Windows. It will add WinGDB
to your utilities pulldown of WinWord.
Both of these macros can be attached to the tool bar buttons of 2.0, WinGRAB
can replace the limited built in envelope printing macro and WinGDB can be
added to another button.
Ami Pro users:
AMI_GRAB.SMM is a macro similar to the WinWord macro. The file AMI_GRAB.DOC
explains how to use this macro.
AMI_WGDB.SMM is a macro similar to the WinWord macro. The file AMI_WGDB.DOC
explains how to use this macro.
WordPerfect for Windows users:
WPWINMAC.DOC is the documentation for WINGRAB.WCM and WINGDB.WCM macros for
WPWin. Read this file to attach WinGRAB and WinGDB to WPWin.
Note: There is a bug in WordPerfect for Windows known as the Cinderella Bug.
You cannot compile a macro the first minute of the hour, as well as from
midnight to one o'clock in the morning (hence the name Cinderella). So you
should only install the macros at any time that does not have a 00 in it.
Other Windows word processor users:
For those that have Windows word processors other than Word for Windows.
WinGRAB can be called by your execute command if your word processor has
a macro language. The command line "WINGRAB /R" will run WinGRAB and print
an envelope without stopping to pop up.
PostScript Printer users:
The font names are changed in the regular font changing selection for the
PostScript printers now. The font size is changed in the locations setup
section now. The locations are now the same as all other printers using
the row and column positioning to set up for printing.
Different manufacturers of PostScript cartridges have hardware specific
PostScript calls that can be used. We have added the ability to enter the
PostScript statusdict to select the different trays of the Hewlett Packard
cartridges. You have up to six lines you can enter in the Printer setup
strings routines. Several PostScript examples are:
Hewlett Packard LaserJet IIP and IIIP MP tray selection:
statusdict begin
true settrayswitch
0 setpapertray
end
Hewlett Packard LaserJet optional envelope feed trays:
statusdict begin
true settrayswitch
2 setpapertray
end
Information on postal bar codes. GRAB and WinGRAB will only print the bar
codes on ZIP+4 zip codes. If you do not have the plus four the bar code
will not be printed.
Presently the only printers supporting the bar codes are:
Hewlett Packard LaserJets and compatibles.
PostScript printers.
Epson dot matrix and compatibles.
We're sorry the Hewlett Packard DeskJet is not compatible with the PCL
graphic line drawing that prints the bar codes on the LaserJet printers.
We have the bar codes turned off in the style sheets PLAIN-S.STL and
PLAIN-L.STL because the bar codes would print garbage if used on a printer
that was not Epson compatible. If you want the bar codes to print you must
set the configuration in GRABCFG or through WinGRAB to print the bar codes.
LaserLabel and postnet bar codes:
LaserLabel will print the postnet bar codes if you have the ZIP+4 ZIP codes
in the GRABDB database. The new "wide area" bar code will be processed by
the post office after June 17, 1991. This option is only available on the
large Avery 5162/5262 labels used by the laser printers. Check with the
post office for discounts on postage when using the postnet bar code
feature.
BDT Optional Paper and Envelope trays
We have added four additional style sheets for the popular BDT trays for
the DeskJets, LaserJets and IBM 4019 printers. The style sheets are:
BDT310.STL - DeskJet
BDTHP2.STL - LaserJet II
BDTHP3.STL - LaserJet III
BDTIBM.STL - IBM 4019
For information on BDT paper and envelope feeders call 1-800-FIND-BDT or
1-714-660-1386. You can also write to BDT at:

New Graphics for Dot Matrix Printers Feature
The program now supports the new graphics functions of Epson and compatible
printers. This will give a darker postnet bar code than the default of
quad density graphics. This will only work on newer printers that supports
the new graphics capibilities.
Incremental Searching
WinGDB now supports incremental searching. When in the main screen, you can
start to type in the last name of a person that you want to find and WinGDB
will incrementally search the data base until the record is found.
Fujitsu Band Printer and Postnet Bar Codes
The label printing feature of WinGDB now supports the Fujitsu band printer
postnet bar codes. This printer is designed for high speed printing and is
the answer if you've been printing a lot of labels.
