Star Trek: Deep Space 9 Trivia Door Documentation
Star Trek: Deep Space 9 Series Trivia Door v .99c is the brother to
Star Trek the Original, and NEXT Generation Trivia Doors. These
popular trivia doors are on hundreds of BBS's across the country.
We have totally redesigned the doors and added better database handling.
We have also included a program (in the registered version) for the
SysOp's so that they can have more control over the way the door is
configured and used. We hope you will like the NEW changes.
The following will be a walk-thru of the door and what to expect at
each menu option.
The opening screen displays an ANSI picture, which can be changed by
you, the SysOp, if you wish to. Just make sure you name the file
"DS9.OP" (if non-color) or "DS9.OPG" (if color).
The next screen shows the following:
The NAME of the USER:
The ALIAS of the USER:
Current point total of the USER:
The number of the Library Card last seen by the USER:
The Current Prompt being used by the USER:
Current Status of the HINT Flag: (On/Off)
Current Status of the Letter Display Flag: (On/Off)
Current Question number the USER is on:
Current Advanced Question the USER is on:
Last time the USER tested:
The MAIN MENU is the next screen. This is a break-down of the available
options:
L) Access the Library Computer
This is a test option. It was designed to inform the user(s)
of information that they may or may not know about the Star
Trek world and the people who brought it to life.
T) Academy Trainig
This is the area where the user can practice what they know
before trying the actual exam.
E) Take the StarFleet Exam
This is where the actual exam takes place (for DS9).
The USER is given a number of questions, SysOp configurable,
and the USER's score is displayed at the top of the screen
so that the USER is constantly updated on their score.
The Question(s) are displayed in a 5 line field. After which,
if the hints are on, the hints are displayed in the HINT field
and then the USER is prompted for the answer. The answer is
displayed as an "*" or "#" depending on whether the answer is a
character or a number.
Under the HINT line is two more lines of information. The first
line displays the number of tries allowed for that question.
The second line displays the point value for that question.
H) Look at the Commodore's High Score List
This is were the USER can view the High Score List to determine
their rating among the other players.
D) Display NEWS Screen
This will display a NEWS screen designed by you. You can use
this to inform the USER(s) of another door, or another node
opening soon, or "adoption status", etc, etc...
It's totally up to you what the NEWS file says.
M) Toggle Color On/Off
This option turns color On or Off.
X) Xpert Mode
This option turns the Xpert Mode On or Off
U) User Config
This option gives the USER the ability to set their own
configuration.
They can set the following options as defaults:
XPERT MODE: On/Off
SHOW HINTS: On/Off
SHOW LETTERS: On/Off
USE ALIAS: Y/N
COMMAND PROMPT: The prompt they want displayed
TOGGLE COLOR: On/Off
S) StarBase Information

The SysOp Name:
The Serial Number:
* The time allotted for answering each question:
* Number of Questions allowed per turn:

* Number of points for MEDIUM questions:
* Number of points for EASY questions:
"*" denotes SysOp configurable <registered version>
Q) Quit back to BBS
This option is for exiting the Door and returning to your
BBS.
File: NEWS.BBS
--------------
There is a NEWS screen SysOps can utilize to advertise or inform
users of almost anything. This is an ASCII screen of any length.
The only thing is it must be in the door directory and be named:
"NEWS.BBS"
Have fun with it.
If requested, we might turn this into an ANSI/ASCII file display
function. I currently only see the need for the ASCII file.

+ Support also for
Optional is the PORT:XXXX:X command whereas you can change the
comport base address and IRQ if needed for non standard comm
port support.
Or if you use a FOSSIL driver use PORT:F:1, where the 1 is
the port to use. F tells DS9 a Fossil driver is to be used.
It will also accept use of the Digiboard Intelligent Async Board
thru the PORT cmd. To use with Digiboard, use the PORT:D:x
whereas x is equal to the Digiboard channel in use.
NOTE: None of the above is case sensitive.
Examples:
# NON Standard Comm Port
ds9 c:\pcb\pcboard.sys PORT:03E8:12 <- uses port 03F8 and IRQ 12
# FOSSIL Drivers
ds9 c:\rbbs\dorinfo1.def port:f:1 <- Fossil port to use
# DIGIBOARD
ds9 c:\wc\callinfo.bbs port:d:5 <- Digiboard channel to use
GENERIC.SYS -
Allows the door to work with literally ANY BBS capable of utilizing
