MacroWare Software(tm)
SETTING UP DIAL-IT:
──────────────────────────────
This documentation will
assume that you have run
DIALSET.EXE. If you have not
yet done so, exit DIAL-IT and
do so before continuing
further. Although you can get
by without doing so, you will
be depriving yourself of many
of Dial-It's features.
ABOUT MACROHELP:
──────────────────────────────
MacroHelp is a built -in
feature developed to help the
user of MacroWare products.
It was originally developed by
J. Allan Williams. Although
various MacroWare programs
have variations of MacroHelp,
each programmer has a tendency
to employ his own style.
This particular edition
of MacroHelp is exited using
the Escape key. The up and
down arrows on the numeric
keypad scroll by line, and the
page up and page down scroll
by pages.
MAIN MENU:
──────────────────────────────
Dial-It may appear a bit
spartan at first, but rest
assured it is anything but
barren. A description of the
keys on the main menu:
UP/DOWN ARROWS: Move
selection bar up or down the
menu.
ENTER: Select option.
ESCAPE: Exit program.
FUNCTION KEYS:
──────────────────────────────
F1: Quick Reference Card.
Contains brief descriptions of
various options in Dial-It.
F2: MacroHelp. This file,
basically a compressed
documentation.
F3: Configure. Sets music
on/off, musical tunes, modem
configuration, and password
protection.
F10: About Dial-It.
Contains credits for Dial-It,
amongst other various tidbits.
OPTIONS:
──────────────────────────────
LOAD PHONEBOOK: Loads a
phonebook into memory. It
lists up to 18 data files in
the current directory.
Pressing L allows you to load
in from a different path. Do
not include the extension to
the filename.
SAVE PHONEBOOK: Saves the
phonebook currently in memory.
Do not include the extension
in the filename. This should
be done after changes are made
to prevent losing them.
* NOTE: Both SAVE and LOAD
take a moment to encode or
decode respectively.
CREATE PHONEBOOK: This
option creates a new phone
book. Any previous phonebooks
in memory will be lost.
VIEW PHONEBOOK: Views
entries one by one. Pressing
Enter moves to the next entry,
pressing Backspace moves to
the previous entry. Pressing
D dials the phone number
entry, assuming one exists.
Pressing E enters the Edit
mode, which is exited with the
Escape key. View is exited
with the Escape key.
SEARCH: Searches entries
for a specific string of text.
After encountering the first
entry containing a match, it
displays and waits for a key
to be pressed. If the Escape
key is pressed, it ends, else
it continues it's search.
OPTIONS:
SORT: Sort entries in
specified order.
PRINT: Prints out phonebook.
CLEAR MEMORY: Clears memory
of all entries.
SEARCH: See above.
EDITING IN VIEW:
──────────────────────────────
After initiating Edit mode
while in View, the field
changes somewhat. To edit an
entry, you press the line
number corresponding to the
entry you wish to edit. Which
line corresponds to which
subject matter is noted in the
upper right quadrant of the
screen. ENTER accepts the
modified entries. Pressing
Escape while not editing an
entry will exit the Edit
field. Pressing ALT-D when
not editing a specific field
will erase the whole entry.
BBS TRACKER:
──────────────────────────────
This is an experimental
addition to Dial-It. I've
noticed that while many
communications programs have
an entry in their phone book
to record your ID, they
generally lack in versatility.
You can record the BBS name
and number, along with up to
three seperate ID's. I
suppose you could look at it
as a hacker database. Each
file is coded and can contain
a maximum of 100 entries.
