The programs that self-extracted and installed this package were generated by
PowerInstall.
PowerInstall is a robust, fully-featured installation tool. It has found a
niche among companies that need an installation program, but lack the budget
or can't realistically implement any of the retail solutions.
Features include:
- PowerInstall is a proven, stable product. While other authors claim to have
'tested' their software at home, PowerInstall is being used by Hewlett-
Packard to distribute Autocad plotter drivers all over Europe. Other
notable clients include companies like Delta Airlines and Kaiser
Permanente.
- PowerInstall provides a robust script language for you to define the
installation of your product(s). You can setup menus and windows, execute
programs full screen or in a window, manipulate files and directories,
change the environment, change text AND binary files and more.
- PowerInstall COMPILES your script into a single, compressed EXE file. This
eliminates the need to ship your ascii script file along with the rest of
your product.
- PowerInstall's install-time executable has been translated into 5
languages; English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Using one simple
script command, you can switch to any language at any time. PowerInstall
even auto-detects your customer's Dos country code and uses the appropriate
language. There is also a 6th, user-definable language.
- The compiled installation EXE file will be as small as 40k depending on the
length of your script.
- Mouse support is built-in.
- The script language gives you enough control to make your installation
'look and feel' like any text-based software you might already use...
including your own products.
- Self-extracting archives are also supported. You can 'convert' any self-
extracting archive to be self-installing. The converted SFX file will
prompt the customer for a drive/directory, create and change to it, perform
the self-extraction and then optionally execute any contained BAT, COM or
EXE file. Unless overridden, the converted SFX file will autodetect the
customer's Dos country code and interface with him in the appropriate
language.
