PURPOSE
-------
DEPSTAT4 is a SPITFIRE utility written to create a bulletin which
provides statistical information on the usage of door programs and
the external protocol file transfers on your SPITFIRE BBS.
EXECUTION OF DEPSTAT4
---------------------
DEPSTAT4 must reside in the same directory in as your SPITFIRE
CALLERS.LOG! If you have established file paths for your SPITFIRE
Bulletin Board System, this would require copying or unzipping DEPSTAT4
to your specified work file path. Otherwise, you will need to copy or
unzip DEPSTAT4 to your main SPITFIRE directory.
Once DEPSTAT4 has been placed in the same directory as the CALLERS.LOG
file, type the following at the DOS prompt:
C:>DEPSTAT4 BULLET[X]
BULLET[X] represents the name of the bulletin you wish the information to
be written to. For instance, if you wished to create a BULLET10.(BBS/CLR)
you would enter the following command:
C:>DEPSTAT4 BULLET10
DEPSTAT4 will calculate the number of times SPITFIRE Doors was accessed
by users on your BBS. It will also provide information concerning file
transfers. This includes the number of file transfers which were made
using SPITFIRE's internal protocols and the number of files transfered
by means of using the external protocols you have set up on your system.
Next, DEPSTAT4 will calculate the number of the external protocols which
used ZModem, JModem, BiModem, Lynx, Megalink, SuperK, Kermit, Puma and/or
WXModem transfer protocols. This information is then written to the
bulletin file you specified at the DOS command line. DEPSTAT4 will
automatically create both a Non-Ansi (.BBS) and an Ansi (.CLR) bulletin.
For DEPSTAT4 to function properly, the included external protocols
MUST appear in your CALLERS.LOG exactly as listed below to be included
in the calculation. However, DEPSTAT4 is not case sensitive so upper
or lowercase is not important. The external protocols should appear in
your caller's log as:
ZModem JModem Lynx SuperK Puma
BiModem MegaLink WXModem Kermit
**NOTE**
(It is assumed the DEPSTAT4 covers the majority of external protocols
which will be used. If you have suggestions for other external transfer
protocols contact Jacque Shipley via The Mother Board BBS - 515-986-3464
- 9600,2400,1200 and a specially compiled DEPSTAT4 can be created for
your use.)
TIP
---
I recommend running DEPSTAT4 just prior to SFLOG as a weekly scheduled
event.
ERROR MESSAGES
--------------
If you attempt to execute DEPSTAT4 from a directory that does not
contain the SPITFIRE CALLERS.LOG, the program will halt and error message
will display notifying you that the CALLERS.LOG was not present.
If you attempt to execute DEPSTAT4 without specifying the bulletin
file you wish to create the program will cease operation and a message
explaining the proper command line syntax will be displayed.
DEPSTAT4 ON A MULTI-NODE SYSTEM
------------------------------
DEPSTAT4 is fully compatible for operation on a multi-node BBS.
It automatically handles any file locking and file sharing
required during execution.
DISTRIBUTION
------------
DEPSTAT4 is being distributed under the Shareware concept. Should
you use DEPSTAT4 and decide to continue using it, a nominal $3 fee is
required. You may distribute DEPSTAT4 freely as long as the files
remain intact and unmodified. If you find it to be worthwhile or have
complimentary comments or constructive criticism, please call The Mother
Board and share your thoughts.
DISCLAIMER
----------
Jacque Shipley and The Mother Board BBS shall not be held responsible
for any damage incurred by the user to hardware, software or peripheral
devices while running DEPSTAT4. By installation or execution of this
program the user agrees to these terms. All responsibility lies with
the user of the software.
THANKS
------
It goes without saying, I am very grateful to Mike Woltz for his
assistance with the development of DEPSTAT4, not to mention his creative
