When you run Calendar Mate, make sure that there is enough space on
your disk to contain two copies of the events file. You can determine
this by switching to the disk and subdirectory where Calendar Mate
resides, typing DIR, and noting the size of CALEVENT.CME and the number
of free bytes on the disk.
If there is not enough space, Calendar Mate will inadvertantly destroy
the events file and/or the parms file. Users particularly exposed to
this unhappy possibility are those running Calendar Mate from a 360K
floppy disk. If you must run in this environment, make a copy of the
disk (for backup purposes) and delete the documentation file from the
diskette you will be using. That will provide ample space.

The documentation for Calendar Mate is in CAL4DOCS.EXE, a self extracting
file. The documentation files take approximately 100K of disk space. To
get access to the documentation, type in CAL4DOCS
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
To install Calendar Mate on a hard drive:
1) Create a new subdirectory on your hard disk with the commands
C:
CD \
MD CALMATE4
2) Copy the contents of the distribution disk to this new subdirectory
COPY A:*.* C:\CALMATE4
3) In order to save diskette space, the documentation has been compressed. To
decompress it, type in CAL4DOCS. Afterwards, you may print it by typing in
PRINT CALMATE4.DOC
4) Run the setup program to choose the appropriate print driver,
calendar language, date format and program window colours. Type in
CD \CALMATE4
SETUP
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
To install Calendar Mate on a floppy disk system:
1) Copy the contents of the distribution diskette to a fresh diskette.
Put the distribution diskette in the A drive, a fresh diskette in
the B drive (if you have one) and type in
DISKCOPY A: B:
If you only have one floppy drive, you will be prompted to switch
disks periodically. Remember that the 'source disk' is the CALENDAR
MATE distribution diskette and the 'target disk' is the fresh diskette.
2) In order to save disk space, the documentation has been compressed.
If you have 360K diskettes, you'll have to copy the documentation file
to a different diskette. Type in
COPY A:CAL4DOCS.EXE B:
If you're using 720K disks or higher, you don't have to copy the docs
to a fresh diskette. To decompress the documentation, type in
CAL4DOCS
and a file called CALMATE4.DOC will appear.
3) Run the setup program to choose the appropriate print driver,
calendar language, date format and program window colours. Put
the newly copied diskette in the A drive and type in
A:
SETUP
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
When you run SETUP, it is absolutely CRUCIAL that you are in the
same subdirectory as all the other CALENDAR MATE files otherwise
unpredictable results will occur.
After SETUP has executed, type in CALENDAR to start Calendar Mate.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
If you are migrating version 4.0 of Calendar Mate, you simply have to
rename your parms file and help file as follows:
RENAME CALHELP.DAT *.CH4
RENAME CALPARM.DAT *.CP4
Also, copy all the print drivers from the distribution disk and the
calendar program:
COPY A:*.PRD
COPY A:CALENDAR.EXE
From now on, the file extension of the Calendar Mate files will reflect
the release number.
If you are currently running an earlier version of Calendar Mate,
(other than 4.0) please note that the format of everything has changed;
the event file, the parms file and the print drivers are all incompatible
with different versions and you MUST run SETUP to convert the data files.

If you have print problems, read on...
1) If you are using the EPSONLQ print driver or the IBMPROPR print
driver and are getting a '1' in the top left corner of the monthly
calendar, switch to the IBMPPNO1 print driver (option 5.1.1).
2) If you are getting a couple of lines on the monthly calendar skipping
a character and getting out of alignment, you are probably trying to
print the happy face characters for the lunar cycle and your printer
cannot print them. When it encounters that character it doesn't print
anything, not even a space, and the rest of the line gets out of
alignment. To fix this, go into option 5.2 and change the 'Lunar Cycle'
field to 'L' or 'N'.
3) If you are getting italic C's, D's and 3's around the borders of the
calendars instead of nice lines, and you have a dot-matrix printer that
is supposedly EPSON compatible, try the EPSON and EPSONLQ print drivers.
If there is no improvement, a program called MPMPRINT will fix
the problem. A trial version of this fine shareware program can be
obtained for $4.00 from
MPM Enterprises Inc. Hawk Software
306 Park Ave. or PO Box 3961
Wilmette, IL 60091 Regina SK S4P 3R9
USA Canada
The full registration for MPMPRINT is $15.00
4) If you have the symptoms described in #3 above but have a laser
printer, there is no solution known at this point.
